First acquaintance with Hangzhou

In the spring of three years ago, two young people came to Hangzhou from Chengdu with longing for the future but also anxiety. At that time, many things were unknown and uncertain.

Some friends said that they admire our courage. After all, we have changed to a new city, everything is unfamiliar, and we have to start all over again. We didn’t think too much about it, we felt we were still young and could go out and have a look. But I secretly told myself that I might have to return to Chengdu to settle down in a few years. It might be one or two years, or it might be three to five years.

My first impression of Hangzhou was that it was a "volume city" and a "food desert". In the first month after I came here, I was so overwhelmed by the intensity of the work that I wanted to go back to Chengdu immediately. However, I gritted my teeth and persevered, and gradually adapted to the high-pressure working environment and the "struggle" culture.

The food was really unpalatable, bland and expensive. Two jokes circulated on the Internet: Hangzhou's famous dish, West Lake Fish in Vinegar, West Lake is West Lake, vinegar is vinegar, and fish is fish; McDonald's can be among the top ten in Hangzhou's food list. Fortunately, my wife is a good cook, so I can often taste the taste of my hometown.

Life in Hangzhou

Three long years, it seems like a moment. I like places with water, but there is a lot of water in the south of the Yangtze River, and the water scenery in Hangzhou is also particularly beautiful. West Lake, Xiang Lake, Xixi Wetland, Liangzhu, Jiuxi Yanshu, Lingyin Temple... Even the Ali Park near home makes people linger. I recently went to Qiandao Lake. If I want to say what I love most about Hangzhou, it must be its natural scenery.

There are still many places I want to visit that I haven’t visited, such as Shaoxing, Anji, etc. Hope to have the opportunity to travel in the future.

The past three years in Hangzhou have also been three years in which my own life trajectory has undergone major changes. During this period, I got married, bought a house (Chengdu), and gave birth to a baby. I also changed jobs once during this period. I experienced many things in the workplace that I had never experienced before or even imagined. I also experienced some growth both technically and as a person.

During this period, apart from my family, I think the most rewarding thing is that I got to know a lot of people who are better than me and gained a lot of knowledge. I have seen that there are people around me who work not to make money, and there are people who make money without working.

For myself, it is only in recent years that I have begun to think about some of the most essential questions about myself. Think about what you are pursuing in this life, think about how the world works, what are the laws of everything, and what is the relationship between people. Fortunately, it's not too late now, and everyone will eventually get their own answer.

Goodbye, Hangzhou

Recently, I happened to have a good opportunity, so I transferred back to Chengdu during the interview. Although the job transfer went through twists and turns and repeated pulls, it went smoothly and I got on a plane back to Chengdu before the National Day.

After thinking about it, Chengdu is better. Although there are relatively fewer job opportunities there, housing prices and commodity prices are lower. There are familiar food, familiar friends, and the breathtaking natural scenery of western Sichuan. It's close to home, anywhere is fine.

Compared with the uncertainty and anxiety when I came, I felt more certain about the future and more calm about life when I went back.

The next plan is to wait until the end of the year to hand over the house, decorate it, buy a car next year, and occasionally take the kids out to camp on weekends. This is the life I have dreamed of countless days and nights in the past few years, and it seems to be close at hand.

I will be extremely grateful to Hangzhou. It has given me precious memories and rapid growth in the past few years. It has also given me these certainties and the ability to live the life of my dreams.

When the baby is older, I will take him to Hangzhou to see the city again if I have the opportunity. Look, this is the place where your parents struggled, and it’s also the place where you were born~
