Opening a payment channel on Bitcoin is very simple. Two people transfer funds to a multi-signature wallet on the chain. The sum of the funds of the two people represents the maximum amount of funds that can be traded by this payment channel. After the channel is established, both parties can conduct transactions. These transactions will not involve the Bitcoin network, so the transaction volume that can be supported will be greatly improved.
When they want to close the payment channel, they can sign a closing transaction, which will settle the final balance on their chain, so for a payment channel, only two transactions need to be generated on the chain.
Because the amount of BTC being traded is very small, it is generally calculated using satoshis (satoshi), the smallest current unit of BTC. sats is the abbreviation of Satoshis, derived from Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, 1sats= 0.00000001 BTC.
How to use Lightning Network on Damus?
Here, we take Wallet of Satoshi as an example. Download Wallet of Satoshi and enter the homepage. You can use it directly without registering an account, or you can log in after registering. To ensure safety, we recommend registering an account first: After selecting login, fill in your Google email address to register your account.
After successful registration, click Receive and a QR code and a string of numbers starting with Inbc will be displayed. We will copy this string of numbers and publish it on Damus. If you want to customize the payment amount, you can click "Add Custom Amount", enter the amount you want to receive, then copy the numbers below and publish it on Damus.
After publishing (Post), the digital string will be automatically converted into a small payment card, and the other party can click on the card to pay you on the Lightning Network.
Of course, we can also add the payment address to the personal page. After filling it out, you can see a lightning logo on the right side of the personal avatar. Click on it to see the lightning network software supported by Damus.
