How to solve the problem of image quality degradation when exporting PDF from Word
⭐️ Recently, after writing a paper in Word, I found that the image quality in the document dropped significantly when I saved it as a "PDF" file. The method introduced in this article can save Word as a high-quality PDF file with uncompressed images and tags . It is recommended to only perform the following operations when finalizing.

Please note that the following methods may differ depending on the version of software you are using . Therefore, you may need to fine-tune it based on your specific situation. The software versions used in this tutorial are as follows:
- Word 2021
- Adobe Acrobat Pro 2019
- OS: Windows 10
Specific settings
Download and install Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. After reopening Word, the Acrobat plug-in will appear in the upper tab.
If the Acrobat plug-in does not appear, go to File – Options – Add-ins – Manage COM Add-ins – Go, check “Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin” and click “OK”.
Through Acrobat - Preferences - Advanced Settings, set the resolution to the maximum value of 2400 dots/inch in the file options bar, and set the object-level compression to "Tag Only".
Click the image page in the left sidebar, change all the options on the right to "off", and set the pixel/inch value of all image types to the maximum value of 2400. Click "Save As" to save as a file, and click "OK" to NoPressImg.joboptions
save Revise.
Enter Acrobat–Preferences again and set the conversion setting of PDFMaker Settings to “NoPressImg”. Please note that I saved it in the previous step NoPressImg(1)
, so there will be more after the file name (1)
.
Open Acrobat Distiller (installed with Adobe Acrobat) and set what you just saved as the NoPressImg.joboptions
default settings in Adobe PDF settings.
Via Review – Track Changes – Show for Review, set to Unmarked.
Create PDF through Acrobat-Create Adobe PDF-Create PDF, click the "Options" button, uncheck "Convert Comments" and click "OK".
At this point, the configuration is completed, click "Save" to generate high-quality PDF.
