Share job interview experience to improve job search success rate

In the past two days, I have been sorting through information and looking at the interview experience I wrote a few years ago, and I feel that it is still applicable today. I mainly share some experiences from the three major aspects of resume, image and interview process. It also contains some common pitfalls in salary negotiation. Today I will reorganize and add them to share with you.

1. Resume is a stepping stone

A resume is not just some information about yourself, but also represents your first impression on the recruiting company. So it is no exaggeration to say that it is a stepping stone.

1. Photos

Many people will attach photos of themselves to their resumes. If you want to include a photo, it would be more formal to use a photo similar to an ID photo (you can find a place that specializes in taking ID photos, and other ID photos can be used within a period of time). Try not to use the selfie photos that you usually post on your social media with a large beauty scale. Many of these photos are basically not up to expectations and will only reduce your points.

2. Self-evaluation

Try to highlight your characteristics, strengths, and even why you are more qualified than others for the position you are currently seeking. For example, if you are a Java programmer turned product manager, you can write in your self-evaluation that you were a Java development engineer, familiar with developing underlying business logic, and understand how development engineers communicate. So being a programmer before has become your advantage. For another example, if you are a product manager who switched from UI, you can also write that you were a UI designer and have an in-depth understanding of interface display and user interaction. Why do you need to write about your occupation like this? Because it is more convincing than simply writing "I have a deep understanding of interface display and user interaction." You can do this for products that are transitioning into the industry halfway. Of course, the premise is that you were really a programmer, a UI, an operation and maintenance, etc. before. You can also write it in a targeted way. If someone is recruiting a B-end product manager and you happen to have some experience in B-end products, you can also add in your self-evaluation the sentence "Have rich B-end product design experience" or "Have n years of B-end product experience" Design experience" In short, try to highlight your own advantages and highlight that you are more suitable for this position than other job applicants.

3. Project experience

Many people write very empty articles about their project experience. They only have a few sentences to introduce and describe the project. If it is development, they will write a few technologies used in development, and then add a description of responsibilities. Of course, this does not rule out being guided by the resume template of the recruitment platform and filling in only the required content step by step. Like 51job, there is only a project description and a description of responsibilities. The project experience of Lagou.com includes project description, project display link and your achievements (actually I feel that Lagou.com has done a good job in this regard). If your project experience includes project description, project display link, responsibility description plus If you achieve success or gain in this project, will your project experience become richer? The achievements of the project do not necessarily have to be individual achievements, but can be the entire project. Then adding specific numbers becomes even more convincing. For example, "This project is still in use from 2011 to now. During this period, it supported the average annual sales of xxx business of 1.73 billion, and the average daily processing orders reached 5,000, laying a solid foundation for the rapid development of the company's business." Another example is "This project uses The number of active users of the company has been effectively increased, and the user retention rate has increased from the original 5% to 30%." If you have ever done this project, I believe it is not difficult to get a number in this project. Some students will say, what should I do if I can’t get specific data for this project that was done two years ago or at my last company? Even if you write "From 2011 to today, this project is still supporting the rapid development of xxx company's xx business", it is stronger than a plain project description of a few sentences. In general, project experience can be divided into two parts: project description and description of responsibilities for this project. The project description can be subdivided into the following points: project description, purpose of this project, general structure of the project, project achievements and features; what kind of expectations has this project achieved, or what is it compared to other projects of the same type? The more prominent part is what problem the enterprise or user solves. Project display link: You can access the link online. If the link opens to a login window and you don’t have an account or password, you might as well not add it. Responsibility description: The part you are responsible for in this project

2. Personal image is also important

In this era where appearance is the most important factor, you should know how important the first impression is without further explanation. I believe that no one would be motivated to take the initiative to contact a slovenly man with unkempt beard and black fingernails, unless they are first attracted by his other specialties.

Personal image consists of two parts: one is dressing, which should be clean and tidy. Try to avoid wearing clothes that are too old. Some clothes will fade or wrinkle when they are old, which will give people the impression that the clothes do not look very clean. Nowadays, many companies do not have many requirements for clothing, as long as it is not too casual. Boys are generally careful not to have unkempt beards or greasy hair. You can get a haircut the day before the interview. Generally, short hair gives people the impression of being sunny and capable. Long hair is not recommended for those who are not designers, as not everyone can manage it well. For girls, try to wear more professional-style clothes and add a light outfit. It is recommended to wear a ponytail for your hairstyle to look more capable. In fact, compared to girls, it is relatively easier for boys to dress up. I read a certain public account before and said that girls will still like boys as long as they are not ugly, have their hair styled, and can dress up a little (after all, I don’t understand now) There are too many boys who don’t know how to dress up).

The other part is words, deeds and behavior. Don't be nervous, straighten your back and act confident. Confidence is actually very important. Even if you are not a very confident person, try to be more confident. Very few people will be able to tell that your confidence is just fake in just one interview. Be confident but don't be arrogant. The fact that the other person can sit here and interview you proves that they are at least equally experienced in this field. Don’t stutter when speaking, don’t look around when communicating, and look directly at the other person’s collar. When the other party introduces business issues or company conditions to you, try to give a response such as: "Okay", "Understand", "Understand", etc. (A common situation among some programmers, after you tell him When you look at him with a question or something, he doesn’t answer or give you any response)

3. Interview process

1.Introduce yourself

Generally, the opening part of the interview is to ask the interviewer to introduce himself. At this time, the interviewer basically divides into the following two situations: one is that he did not read your resume carefully or does not remember it (if he receives dozens of resumes in a day, it is really possible that he will not remember them. Who is who), take this opportunity to briefly browse. The other is to not think about the entry point of the question, and find the points that interest you during your self-introduction to start the subsequent interview communication. Therefore, when introducing yourself, there is no need to introduce too much personal information, such as age, residential address, etc. (no interviewer will want to know your zodiac sign or other information irrelevant to your job, except for weird ones), just introduce your name. Next, you can introduce some personal characteristics, such as experience in a certain industry type project from 0 to 1, such as some achievements or feelings achieved in the previous company or views on the company and industry you are currently applying for, etc. During the self-introduction process, be careful not to go off topic. Focus on work-related aspects to introduce yourself and highlight your advantages and characteristics. It is recommended that you write an outline of your self-introduction after preparing your resume, and then practice it in advance.

2. Common questions in interviews

During the interview process, most interviewers do not ask questions without purpose. Before answering, use your brain to think about the purpose of the other person asking the question and what kind of answer they want to get. Here are some of the most common questions asked in interviews:

  • Reason for leaving your last company?

The most common and most asked question, almost always asked in interviews in most industries. Therefore, it is very necessary to think about how to answer in advance. The other party mainly uses it to consider whether you are a relatively stable person. You can also tell the truth if it is due to the company's own operating problems, such as a company facing bankruptcy due to poor management or a company's software project being stopped due to a shortage of funds, etc. Some people will also say that the company has little room for development or reasons related to the company's prospects. This is not to say that it is not possible, but if you say so, you may face other problems that extend. For example, the interviewer will ask, "What do you think of the prospects of our company's industry?" "What do you think of the industry our company is in?" etc. If the answer is not good and difficult to control, it is better to just say that it is not possible due to the pressure of life. Don’t force yourself to find a job with a higher salary. Remember not to speak ill of your last company. If you have the opportunity, you can even talk about the advantages of your last company, etc. Because it is difficult to stay in one company for a lifetime, one day the company you are interviewing with today will become your last company.

  • What are your thoughts or feelings about your last company?

For this question, you may have expressed your views and feelings in your personal introduction or in the previous question. You may be asked this question next if you don't mention it. You can start with your industry views and thoughts on the previous company, and you can talk about your personal thoughts and opinions on industry prospects and industry trends (if you don’t know how to explain, you can search on Baidu and there are basically a lot of articles commenting on related industries) and then talk about it. Regarding your personal feelings and thoughts about working at your previous company, remember not to speak ill of your previous company.

  • In terms of project experience, what are your achievements and thoughts on a certain project?

This type of question is to gain an in-depth understanding of personal abilities. Sometimes HR will also ask, just to see if the project experience written in your resume is bragging or if you have actual experience. You can start with the broad scope. To what extent has the entire project reached and what problems has it solved for the company or users? It is best to list some data. The numbers are more convincing. Then list personal achievements in the project, specific to a specific problem and how to solve it. It will be more convincing if you can list specific things, what kind of feelings you have at the end, and how you can do better. It doesn’t have to be about how big a problem you have solved, for example, you should carefully and carefully do what you should do in the project. In the end, the achievement of the entire project will also be part of your personal achievement.

  • Why did you choose this career in the first place or why did you switch to this career?

The main point is to be able to tell why. If you like this profession, why do you like it? Because we often encounter problems and problems, we will have a sense of accomplishment after solving a problem or problem. At the same time, we can also improve our ability to solve problems, which is helpful in all aspects of life. In short, be careful not to say that it is easier because the salary is high and there are fewer things to do. Instead, give a more positive reason why. Don't let the other person think that you just chose this career on impulse. This will appear unstable and unreliable. You may want to change to another career on impulse.

  • What are your career plans for the future or the next five years?

It can be used to judge a person's ambition, and whether this person will be a monk who rings the bell or a motivated person in the future. Therefore, we should not take this problem lightly. In fact, in practice, we can also make future plans in advance according to our own situation, such as what kind of goal or degree of achievement we can achieve in a certain time, and then divide it into one step, two steps and three steps. In this way, you will be more confident when answering this question. Many people actually have no plans for their career or even the future. Although plans often fail to keep up with changes, people with plans and goals are often better than those without plans. Target people are strong.

  • If you choose to apply for a job in our company, do you know about our company's products?

Before the interview, learn about the company's relevant information in advance, its industry, industry prospects, etc. (Normally, you should know this when you are preparing to submit your resume to this company. In more detail, you need to know who the legal person is, how many companies are under the legal person's name, and others. company's situation). When answering questions, you can talk about the prospects of the company's industry and the company's development potential. Understand the company's products and corresponding competing products in advance, and explain their corresponding advantages and disadvantages. Regarding the shortcomings of the company's products, you can add that this is your personal opinion, because you don't know enough about the actual situation, and you don't know if there are other reasons for this shortcoming (you can even ask the interviewer for advice).

3. Expected salary

The salary given in many recruitment information is a floating salary range, because if the salary is too low, people with the ability will not come, and if the salary is too high, people who are not qualified for the job will not dare to come if the salary requirements are not high, and there are people who are within the range. It’s okay to bargain over your salary. But as a job seeker, you should not give a range, because the range gives the impression that the highest in the range corresponds to your ability, so they will be conservative and give you the lowest salary in the range, and the lowest is also given by you. within the range. As mentioned above, I need to be confident. I am convinced that I can get this much salary even if I want to get this much salary. I will give a specific salary figure. Don't give in easily. If the other party thinks your salary is too high and you are really anxious to get this job, don't immediately agree to lower the salary standard. It's like buying clothes when you bargain with the boss and they agree in one go. You have the same feeling. . What should I do if I really want this job? Before giving in, ask the company if there are other benefits and benefits before giving in appropriately (it could be employee training, professional courses, etc.).

There are some pitfalls in salary that you should pay attention to, which are common tricks used by some small and medium-sized enterprises.

  • Pressure on wages

The interview process obviously went smoothly and the salary was negotiated. However, when I received the recruitment notice from HR, the other party suggested that my ability was not enough and my salary needed to be reduced (I gave you a discount). At this time, you must think carefully and don't agree easily (it's easy for newcomers to make the mistake of agreeing immediately in order to find a job as soon as possible). HR in many companies also calculates performance based on performance. Maybe after they have lowered your salary, they will turn around and take the commission in proportion to the lower salary. When I encounter this kind of situation, I usually just say, "In that case, thank you for giving me this interview opportunity. I just received a job offer from another company and am planning to join next week." In fact, company recruitment interviews also take time. In terms of cost, after several rounds of interviews, the leader has selected a good candidate because HR cannot come in due to salary pressure, and HR has to answer to the hiring department.

  • Social Security Provident Fund Payment Base

Many small companies pay social security provident funds according to the minimum standard, which only costs a few hundred yuan a month. It’s not just that the company pays less on the surface. The social security provident fund payment can be deducted from personal income tax. Not only is the company’s payment less, your personal payment is also less, which means you can use it to deduct personal income tax. The portion of the tax is also reduced (which means you have to pay a lot more taxes throughout the year). If you encounter someone who works according to the minimum standard, you have to be careful and mention it when negotiating salary.

  • Lure with year-end bonuses or other benefits

In order to lower your salary, some HR deliberately lower your salary using the excuse of year-end bonus (for example: our current salary is 14 or 15, which is almost the same as your salary). The pitfall here is that any welfare-related conditions issued by the company will basically not be included in the labor contract. The welfare conditions may change at any time or harsh obtaining conditions may be added. If at the end of the year the year-end bonus is canceled due to the company's operating losses, or the 15 salary originally told by HR is changed to 13 salary, there is no way to ask HR for compensation at this time.

4. Finally, is there anything else you need to know?

Don’t just ask about benefits, or whether you can work overtime (any company would prefer to find an employee who is willing to work overtime). For example, you don’t need to ask about probation period standards or entry preparation, because they will basically be clearly stated in your offer notice. You can understand the reasons why the company recruits people, and whether there are business expansion needs or employees leaving. You can learn about the company's salary adjustment or training system, etc.

There are almost no standard answers to the questions asked during the above interview process. What we need to do is to make our answers more reliable when facing these questions.
