Question B of the 2023 Higher Education Society Cup National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition: Multi-Beam Line Measurement Problem

Question B : Multi-beam line survey problem

Single-beam bathymetry is a technology that uses the propagation characteristics of sound waves in water to measure the depth of water bodies. Sound waves propagate in a straight line at a uniform speed in a uniform medium and are reflected on different interfaces. This principle is used to emit sound wave signals vertically from the transducer of the measurement ship to the seabed, and record the propagation time from sound wave emission to signal reception. The propagation speed and propagation time in seawater are used to calculate the depth of seawater. The working principle is shown in Figure 1. Since the single-beam sounding process uses a single-point continuous measurement method, the distribution of sounding data is characterized by very dense data along the track, but no data between survey lines.
