[Data sharing] Global human footprint data from 2000 to 2020 (no need to forward\free access)

Human Footprint is the pressure caused by ecological processes and changes in natural landscapes on the ecological environment. It is the focus of biodiversity and ecological protection in countries around the world. So how can we obtain spatiotemporal data of human footprints spanning a long time span?

Previously we shared the 30m resolution global annual impervious surface (GAIA) data from 1985 to 2021 provided by the Urban Environmental Monitoring and Modeling (UEMM) team of the School of Land Science and Technology of China Agricultural University (please view the previous article for details).

What we share with you this time is the global human footprint data from 2000 to 2020. This data is also shared by the UEMM team. The data format is raster format (.tif). The latest data year is 2020. This data will continue to be updated. You can continue to pay attention!

The following is a detailed introduction of the data:

01Data  preview

Let’s take the 2009 global human footprint data as an example to preview the following:

Next, let’s take Shanghai data in 2020 as an example to look at the following details:

02Data  details

Data introduction:

Eight variables, including built environment, population density, nighttime lighting, farmland, pasture, roads, railways, and navigable waterways that reflect different aspects of human pressure, were used to develop the global terrestrial human population from 2000 to 2020 following the method of Sanderson and Venter et al. Annual dynamic data on footprints. The mapping accuracy was evaluated using Venter's visual interpretation samples (3460 in total), and the results showed that the human footprint map was found to have an R2=0.62, which was higher than the previous human footprint map (R2=0.50). At the same time, consistent with the data developed by Venter, Kennedy, Williams et al., the correlations reached 0.72, 0.66 and 0.93 respectively.
