Make Windows to go with ventoy
I wrote something about Windows to go and ventoy tools before, and I also said that I would write this blog at the time for some reasons, but I didn’t write it for some reasons, but today I am writing this blog.
According to my understanding, as long as you can install the system into VHDX, you can run it in ventoy. So it is not impossible to install Linux into ventoy. As for PE, it is useless, so troublesome, you can run it directly through iso.
preparation tools
- EasyBCD (Bootstrap Editor) - Official Website
- System image file (ISO file or vhd file)
- Ventoy tools - official website
- Ventoy supports plug-ins (without this, your vhd virtual disk cannot be displayed on the ventoy boot page) - official website
- DiskGenius (partition tool) - official website
- winNT——If you can’t find the official website, you can go to a third-party website to download or use the winNT I provided
In addition to the system image files, I will package the above tools and put them in the network disk for everyone to download. I will also provide an official download location for everyone to download.

Create a VHDX virtual disk file
Open disk management,
we choose to create a VHD in the operation,
we choose the file type as VHDX, and then choose the storage location, and set the capacity to 64GB.
Now we can view this virtual disk in disk management.
Finally, we initialize it to GPT or MBR format. The
difference between GPT and MBR is:
GPT is used for UEFI boot and MBR is used for BIOS boot.
Right-click the following location
and we can get the following disk
At this point, the VHDX file has been created and can be partitioned
Use DiskGenius to partition VHDX files
Open the DiskGenius tool and we find our VHDX disk
Right-click on the blank partition and choose to create a new partition. In the pop-up window, choose to create an ESP partition (the default size is enough) and continue all the way by default. After the completion,
we save the changes.
Now the VHDX partition has been completed and proceed to the next step
Install ventoy on the removable disk
Open the ventoy tool (it will show the internal version since I installed it)
Now the first step is not to install but to check your boot method. If it is BIOS, choose MBR. If it is UEFI, choose GPT.
I am booting from UEFI, so it is GPT. After choosing, we find our mobile device and choose
We choose to install directly, pay attention The data in the disk will not be cleared, please pay attention to backup
Now that the ventoy device is finished, install the system into the VHDX file.
Download system image
You can go to the official website to download - win11 (official website) - win10 (official website) - other (pure mirror msdn) screenshots of each website
Install the system into a VHDX disk file
Open winNT,
the first choice is the Windows system image (I use win10)
the second choice: the default is enough,
the third choice is the VHDX disk (you need to double-click to mount before you choose again)
the fourth: the mounted drive symbol does not need you now Some plates are fine
Fifth (optional): Select the system version.
You can start after the completion
. However, the following errors may occur
. Don’t worry about this situation. Just confirm it.
BCD depends on the situation.
After confirmation, wait for completion
It's almost there
Restart the configuration system
Boot will be added by default after installation, we can restart directly. If you don't use it, you can use EasyBCD to view/edit the boot.
Operate according to the picture,
restart and select the system, enter the newly created system (the newly created system boot is generally the default boot) and
perform some simple configurations
After successfully entering the system, don't worry about the end yet.
Load the system into ventoy and load the supporting plugins
If you can't choose the right plugin, try a few more versions
Copy the img file in the file
to create a folder in the ventoy disk, and name the folder as ventoy. Paste the img file you just copied into the ventoy folder.
Then select our VHDX file to copy or move to the root directory of ventoy.
This is basically the end, but our guide has not been deleted. Although it can be used, it is not necessary, right?
delete guide
Open EasyBCD and find the edit boot menu
in the toolbar, open it, select our unnecessary boot, and click delete . This tutorial is over.
test run
Restart and use the U disk to start. The operation of each computer is different. You can Baidu it yourself. I am Asus, press esc to boot
and you can see that there is a guide to select and enter. After entering,
it is the boot page of ventoy. When you can see vhdx, it means that the plug-in has taken effect. Press enter to
successfully enter the system
To run PE, you can go to my previous blog to view
Use ventoy to make PE (multiple PEs can exist at the same time) - (with pictures)
