Yan Shuicheng, an AI expert, is about to create a general artificial intelligence.

On the evening of this Friday, Kunlun Wanwei officially announced the joining of Professor Yan Shuicheng, a top international expert in the field of computer vision and machine learning.
According to reports, he and Zhou Yahui, the founder of Kunlun Wanwei, will serve as the co-CEO of Tiangong Intelligent, and concurrently serve as the dean of Kunlun Wanwei 2050 Global Research Institute.
Yan Shuicheng is an academician of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, a fellow of AAAI, ACM, IEEE and IAPR. Before joining Kunlun Wanwei, he was the Chief Scientist of Zhiyuan Scholar-Machine Learning and the Chief Scientist of Sea Group.
Yan Shuicheng's research areas include computer vision, machine learning, and multimodal analysis. So far, Professor Yan Shuicheng has published more than 97,000 papers in top international academic journals and conferences, with an H-index of 141. He has been named the annual "Highly Cited Scientist" eight times.
For joining Kunlun Wanwei this time, Professor Yan Shuicheng said that in the research of general artificial intelligence, the chain from technology research, engineering to product is indispensable. Kunlun Wanwei has laid out a system from large models to C-end multi-modal products. And the business is oriented to the global market, which has great development prospects.
He said: "Personally, I have been pursuing Double Satisfactions in academia and industry at the research level, and I have been pursuing to be on the cusp of AI at the technical level. The current cusp is Foundation Models, which is the most exciting aspect of AI. Exciting moment."
Well-known scholars in the field of AI
In the field of artificial intelligence, Yan Shuicheng is a well-known scholar that we are familiar with.
Yan Shuicheng entered the Department of Mathematics of Peking University in 1995 under the tutelage of Professor Cheng Qiansheng. He studied at Peking University for both undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees. In 2004, he received a doctorate in mathematics from Peking University.
In 2001, Yan Shuicheng entered Microsoft Asia Research Institute as an intern, under the tutelage of Zhang Hongjiang, one of the founders of Microsoft Asia Research Institute. After graduating with a Ph.D. in 2004, Yan Shuicheng left Microsoft Asia Research Institute and first engaged in face recognition related research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Two years later, he went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) for postdoctoral research. He studied under the academician of the American Academy of Engineering and a famous Chinese in computer vision. Scholar Thomas Huang.
In 2007, Yan Shuicheng joined the National University of Singapore, founded the Machine Learning and Computer Vision Laboratory, and has a tenured teaching position. In the eight years at the National University of Singapore, Yan Shuicheng's academic career went smoothly, and he was awarded the Singapore Young Scientist Award by the National Academy of Singapore in 2011.
The team led by Yan Shuicheng has won 10 championships and honor awards in Pascal VOC and ImageNet Large-Scale Visual Recognition (ILSVRC), two core competitions in the field of computer vision, and more than 10 best (student) paper awards. His team has also won the Grand Slam of Best Paper Award, Best Student Paper Award and Best Technology Demonstration Award of ACM MM, the top conference in the field of multimedia.
The core 1×1 convolution of the "Network in Network" (NIN) network structure proposed by Yan Shuicheng's team is a standard module of almost all computer vision deep learning models in recent years. It has far-reaching influence in academia and industry. GoogleNet, residual network (ResNet) and other models adopted.
In 2015, Yan Shuicheng joined 360 Group as the president and chief scientist of the AI Research Institute, which was Yan Shuicheng's first turn from academia to the industry. Four years later, in July 2019, Yan Shuicheng joined Yitu Technology, and once stated that "the large-scale implementation and commercialization of AI will be the core challenge of the next stage."
In 2021, Yan Shuicheng will join Sea Group as chief scientist and lead the construction of Sea AI Lab.
In March 2023, Yan Shuicheng joined the non-profit academic research institution "Zhiyuan Research Institute" as a visiting chief scientist.
