Five senses experience design exploration

On August 11, in the multi-functional hall of Shanghai Art Research Center on the second floor of Shanghai Art Museum, the third of five public welfare design sharing activities in the "Future Design Rhapsody" series, the design ensemble "Five Senses Immersive Experience Design", designed by Innovation Consulting Gao Lili Lily brings knowledge sharing.

Charity Sharing on August 11: Five Senses Immersive Experience Design

What is Five Senses Design ?

Five-sense design is a design method that focuses on human sensory experience. It conveys emotion, information and value through the five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste), and creates a richer, immersive and meaningful experience for users.

Among the five senses of human beings, sight and hearing are the most commonly used sensory channels. In addition, sound is transmitted directly to the audience, so hearing is a passive way of receiving. The sense of smell is the channel of personalized judgment. It is usually unreasonable for a person to like a certain smell, and it belongs to the individual's unique preferences and associations. Taste and vision are sensory channels that are frequently stimulated in business today. The sense of touch is an effective way to establish emotional distance. A simple touch or hug can quickly shorten the connection between people.

After Lily introduced many cases of the five senses, the group and interactive design sessions were carried out on the spot.

The design task for the first group was to create a coffee beverage product. Their idea is to add different flavors to the degradable straws, using the principle of addition to enrich the sensory experience of users by adding elements.

The second set of design challenges is inclusive design, considering the needs of special groups. Starting from the user's characteristics, they overcome the user's limited senses and compensate through other senses. This is the use of the transfer principle to create a barrier-free experience for more people.

The third group discussed the concept of "good design is not to stimulate the senses blindly, but to awaken the senses naturally". They used the principle of subtraction to evoke the user's inner sensory experience through well-designed details and simplified elements.

These different design principles and methods have brought rich thinking inspiration to the participants, allowing them to think about how to better use the five senses in design from different perspectives to create an amazing and profound experience. This group interactive session not only allowed everyone to deeply understand the principles of five-sense design, but also encouraged interdisciplinary cooperation and innovative thinking.
