Home dual-router bridging implementation (main TPLink + secondary Fast)

Problem background: The main router is in the living room, but the master bedroom is far away from the living room and separated by several walls, so the WiFi signal is weak. Because the router was upgraded before, an old router branded as Fast was idle. Consider whether to put the old router in the master bedroom, bridge the signal of the main router in the living room, and amplify it in the bedroom. Therefore, the matching plan is: the TPLink router is used as the main router in the living room, and the old Fast router is used as the secondary router in the master bedroom.

Main router configuration support

I have a fixed IP for the main router. Anyway, it is in my own LAN, so I can set it up as long as there is no conflict.

LAN port IP can be set to automatic. This should be the default and probably doesn't need to be changed. However, the DHCP of the main router still needs to be enabled, because the secondary router also uses this. If this is the default value, it can be left unmodified. As shown below.

The secondary router connects to the primary router

The secondary router is in the master bedroom, no twisted pair is needed, and it can be connected to the main router in unlimited ways. First, make sure that the two routers use the same network. On the [Wireless Settings] -> [WDS Wireless Bridge] page of the secondary router, turn on this function switch, and fill in the WiFi name and password of the primary router.

On the management page of the [WAN port settings] of the secondary router, if you see a red warning "disconnected (the WAN port is not plugged in)", just pretend that you don't see it.

Secondary router configuration

The WAN port setting of the secondary router is equivalent to setting the network source.

Next, change the LAN port setting to manual IP, and set it to the same network segment as the main router. The IP of the main route is 192.168.0.1, then the secondary route is set to 192.168.0.2.

In addition, turn off the DHCP function of the secondary router and use the primary router automatically.

After completing these steps, there are two WiFis at home, and the secondary router with stronger signal can be used as an AP to access the Internet in the bedroom.
