[How to write a good paper for academic novice] Research conclusion: conclusion vs conclusion

I. Introduction

In the process of writing, I found that the two parts of research conclusion and theoretical contribution were the most challenging, and often required repeated revisions. However, after several revisions, I have summed up some tips, which can be regarded as some gains (must believe: the paper is revised).

2. The Importance of Research Conclusions

First, why write research conclusions? In many experimental papers, the experimental results are simply stated without development. However, this style of writing is repetitive and fails to adequately highlight the importance of our research.

Therefore, writing research conclusions has the following necessity:

  1. The research conclusion is a comprehensive summary of our experimental design section, and finally tells readers what conclusions we have reached through what analysis.
  2. We need to compare and dialogue with previous research results to show what special content our research digs deeply.
  3. We need to help readers summarize, to help them better understand what our research is doing and what results it has achieved.

3. The entry point of the research conclusion

(1) Dialogue between this conclusion and previous research

  • Similar to previous studies?
  • Respond to the content of previous studies on the same topic?
  • Support previous research results?
  • Which aspect of previous research has been supplemented?
  • What are the differences with previous studies?

(2) What is the significance of this research result?

  • First, we can gain new knowledge and insights by in-depth interpretation of the results.
  • Second, an in-depth interpretation can also challenge traditional ways of thinking, as sometimes results may contradict common sense and require in-depth explanation to understand why.
  • Finally, by in-depth interpretation of the results, we can discover new associations and interrelationships, and focus on these new relationships themselves, different from previous contributions.

4. Matters needing attention

(1) Clear distinction

Many people tend to confuse the concepts of research conclusions and theoretical contributions, but the most notable difference between them is that research conclusions are a dialogue between our own research results and those of others, while theoretical contributions mean that our research fills in the gaps of previous research. What are the gaps in the research. In short, research conclusions are written around our own conclusions, while theoretical contributions are written around gaps in previous research.

(2) In-depth analysis of the conclusion

When we draw a conclusion and give an in-depth explanation, we do not simply rely on or summarize the evidence part of the research hypothesis, but think about the mechanism behind the conclusion. Of course, not every conclusion requires in-depth analysis.

(3) Inconsistent with previous research results, or abnormal

When we encounter situations that are inconsistent or contrary to common sense with previous research results, we must explain them. However, such an explanation must rely on sound and reliable evidence.
