Things about 6G (6) ------- Ubiquitous Intelligence

Li Deren, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academician of the New York Academy of Sciences, academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, said at the first Huawei·Yichun Urban Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Summit Forum that the 6G vision is to enable human society to enter the ubiquitous Intelligent information society.

This article mainly introduces the contribution of 6G in intelligent and smart society.

What is intelligence ubiquitous? Why does 6G need smart ubiquity? How has it changed our lives?

The so-called ubiquitous, that is, widespread existence. "Ubiquitous intelligence", one is ubiquitous in infrastructure construction, under the spring breeze of "new infrastructure", intelligent technology will gradually transform into basic service facilities like networks and electricity. The second is to apply to more and more diverse application scenarios and larger-scale use. More traditional industries are slowly or quickly connected to smart technologies, and jointly explore new future models with technology companies. At the same time, people will feel ubiquitous in their lives. The intelligent application of technology further embodies the inclusive spirit of technology.

The development of artificial intelligence technology and industry is moving towards the era of "ubiquitous intelligence". In the future, China will no longer have pure traditional industries, and every industry will more or less start the process of digitalization. Artificial intelligence has "panned" a huge wave, and everyone will be swept in this huge wave.

Looking back at the development history of mobile communications, 1G to 4G mainly solve the connection between people, and 5G has created a process from the consumer Internet connected by people to the industrial Internet connected by "human-machine-thing". Looking forward to the future, Professor Zhang Ping of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications believes that human beings are the spirit of all things, and wisdom is the fundamental difference between human beings and other creatures. However, human wisdom is limited and requires continuous learning. Therefore, when 6G comes, "human-machine The connection between "-things" will extend to wisdom, realizing the interaction and connection of "human-nature-wisdom", that is, the integration of "human-machine-object-spirit". And this is why the theme of this seminar is determined as "6G: Human Nature Wisdom". Professor Liu Renping from the University of Technology Sydney also believes that intelligence will play an important role in 6G; "The core of 6G is to introduce intelligence into communication and increase capacity through intelligence." Liu Guangyi, chief expert of China Mobile Research Institute, pointed out that if 4G realizes ubiquitous communication, 5G realizes ubiquitous information, 5G+ will realize ubiquitous senses, then 6G will realize ubiquitous intelligence.

The ubiquitous intelligent infrastructure will include five parts: intelligent basic platform (artificial intelligence algorithm framework), big data, cloud, pipe and terminal. On the one hand, infrastructure will change in response to intelligence. For example, the cloud platform will not only include the cloudification of CPU capabilities in the Internet era, but will also add cloudification support for GPU capabilities; on the other hand, infrastructure will also integrate with intelligence. For example, the network will Integrate more intelligence and further evolve - forming a network of knowledge. Gao Xinya finally said: "China Telecom has proposed a new transformation 3.0 strategy in 2016, and is committed to being a leading integrated intelligent information service operator. But intelligent infrastructure does not depend on just one operator or several Internet companies. What can be achieved must be completed by the cooperation of the entire information industry. The industry will work together to achieve win-win cooperation and jointly welcome the coming intelligent society.”

With the development of technologies such as new display, sensing and imaging devices, and low-power dedicated processors, the current smartphone will be replaced by a lightweight pair of glasses to achieve ultra-high resolution and frame rate through ultra-high network speed , and can provide "XR" services that combine virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality into one, seamlessly connecting with our senses and movements.

High-resolution sensing imaging, wearable displays, and ultra-high-speed wireless networks will make remote holography that captures, transmits, and renders 3D images in real time a reality. For example, real-time "projection" of each participant in the meeting, and the creation of perceptual illusions through XR, so that people in different cities feel that they are in the same room. This has applications in distance education, collaborative design, telemedicine, telework, advanced 3D simulation and training, and defense.

After 2030, the world will have millions of self-driving vehicles connected to the network, and transportation and logistics will be more efficient. These vehicles range from driverless cars operating between homes, schools, and workplaces to autonomous trucks or drones delivering goods. Each vehicle will be equipped with many sensors, including cameras, laser scanners, odometers and terahertz radars. Algorithms must quickly fuse to generate a map of the surrounding environment, including other vehicles, pedestrians, animals, etc. that it may collide with.
