On June 17, 2023, the PostgreSQL branch of the China Open Source Software Promotion Alliance held a database technology summit in Chengdu. With the theme of "New Opportunities, New Situations, and New Developments", this summit will discuss the development prospects of the PostgreSQL database under these new opportunities in light of the current craze for innovation, artificial intelligence and other industrial transformation backgrounds. The summit invites many industry leaders, academic elites, technical experts, and technology enthusiasts to participate in this event, share the future development opportunities, new technologies and new directions of the PostgreSQL database, and promote the development of PostgreSQL in China.

Chen Jinbao believes that the public cloud is one of the important directions for future database development, and the data warehouse based on the relational database lacks flexibility, making it difficult to take advantage of the advantages of the public cloud; NoSQL and data lake solutions lack support for transaction ACID, and are difficult to handle complex data analysis scenarios. Users expect a product that takes into account the advantages of relational data warehouses and public clouds, which is also the design goal of PieCloudDB Database.
In terms of computing engine, PieCloudDB provides complete SQL support, ACID transaction support, and efficient query optimization and executor, which is fully capable of various complex data analysis scenarios; in terms of public cloud features, PieCloudDB realizes the separation of storage and computing, and provides elastic computing clusters. Users can pay for computing and storage on demand, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
PieCloudDB's cloud-native architecture includes two important features: elastically scalable clusters and Multi-Cluster. PieCloudDB uses completely stateless segment nodes to provide ultimate computing cluster elasticity; while multi-cluster features are realized through independent system tables, distributed locks and transactions. Finally, Chen Jinbao introduced some key features that PieCloudDB will release in the future: Time Travel, Branch, Data Sharing, and the released performance optimization features aggregation pushdown and pre-aggregation.
