On June 3, 2023, the Open Source Software Alliance PostgreSQL Chinese Community held a technical salon in Wuhan. The theme of this event is to discuss and share about future databases. By discussing the concept and characteristics of the future database, it will provide more support and services for the development of the intelligent era. At the same time, by exploring the symbiosis and co-prosperity of database and AI technology, it will promote the development and innovation of the digital economy and create a new chapter for the future database.
Tuosupai, as a PostgreSQL partner community, was also invited to participate in this event. Guo Gang, CTO of OpenPie, delivered a keynote speech "The Birth Journey of Cloud Native Distributed Virtual Data Warehouse PieCloudDB" at the event.

Guo Gang described the construction and growth of the PieCloudDB core from four aspects: data storage, data access acceleration, metadata management, and distribution. In his speech, he first introduced a new data storage engine built by PieCloudDB: JANM (Jianmo), which implements a row-column mixed storage structure based on object storage. Jianmo has fully considered S3 access-friendly, OLAP-friendly and computing engine acceleration-friendly when designing; for data access acceleration, in order to reduce costs and increase efficiency, PieCloudDB supports S3 storage, and has made a lot of optimizations for the bottleneck of S3 storage itself; Data design, PieCloudDB stores metadata in FoundationDB, and relieves the pressure on FoundationDB by using metadata caching and other technologies; finally, from stand-alone to distributed, PieCloudDB implements a distributed engine and targets at distributed scenarios Made a lot of optimizations.
In the future, the OpenPie team will continue to polish the PieCloudDB kernel, and continue to optimize metadata storage, user data storage, optimizer and computing engine to provide users with a product with more powerful performance and higher stability.
