Pei Dingyi was born in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and was born in Zhangdian District, Zibo City, Shandong Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China, a professor, and a doctoral supervisor. He has long been engaged in research and teaching of algebra, number theory, and cryptography. In 1959, he was admitted to the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Science and Technology of China. After graduating from the university in 1964, he was admitted as a postgraduate student in the department.
On December 25, 1978, as one of the first batch of 50 visiting scholars sent by the Ministry of Education to the United States after the reform and opening up, he entered the world-renowned Princeton University Department of Mathematics for advanced studies. He studied modular forms with the master of number theory Professor G. Shimura. He made extraordinary achievements in the study of the basic theorem of 3/2-weighted modular forms. .
After returning from Princeton in 1981, he gradually turned from the field of number theory to cryptography research. His cryptography research results have won the first and second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (collective award), especially in the research of authentication codes, which have achieved world-class results.
Since 1990, Dingyi Pei began to participate in the establishment of the Chinese Cryptography Society. In March 2007, the Chinese Cryptography Society was established. He served as the first and second chairman of the board, and actively promoted the international and domestic academic exchanges of Chinese cryptography. In 2019, it was awarded the commemorative medal for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
As a leading figure in the field of Chinese cryptography, Pei Dingyi has trained a large number of outstanding talents and scholars in the field of Chinese cryptography. Some of them have been selected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, some have made outstanding achievements in national defense construction, some have been selected for the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, some have won the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and many have become famous scholars and professors in scientific research institutions at home and abroad.
Pei Dingyi is also the founder of the discipline of cryptography and information security at Guangzhou University. In 1994, Pei Dingyi came to Guangzhou Normal University (later merged and reorganized into Guangzhou University) to establish the Institute of Mathematics and Information Security of Guangzhou University. He served as the dean of the Department of Mathematics and the Dean of the School of Science. He led the mathematics discipline of Guangzhou University to obtain a master's degree in applied mathematics, created an undergraduate major in information security, and established a provincial and municipal key laboratory for information security.
