HowNet Sememe Introduction Sememe, the most basic and the smallest semantic unit that should not be divided

Introduction to CNKI

OpenHowNet originates from HowNet, a language knowledge base with great influence in the Chinese world. The construction of HowNet adheres to the idea of reductionism , that is, the meaning of all words can be composed of smaller semantic units , and this semantic unit is called "sememe", that is, the most basic and the smallest semantic meaning that cannot be further divided unit. HowNet has built a fine semantic description system containing more than 2,000 sememes , and has marked the sememes for the concepts represented by more than 100,000 Chinese and English words.

HowNet was first designed and constructed by Dong Zhendong and Dong Qiang in the 1990s, and has a history of nearly 30 years, during which it has been iteratively updated. OpenHowNet open sourced the core data of HowNet for the first time , and developed a rich calling interface to realize functions such as sememe query and word similarity calculation based on sememe.
