Remember to participate in the 2022 Google Developers Conference

A few days ago, I was fortunate to participate in the 2022 Google Developers Conference (Google Developer Summit). The last time I participated in the Google Developers Conference was in 2019. During this period, due to well-known reasons, the developer conference was changed to be held online.

Compared with the last time, it can be clearly felt that the number of participants has dropped. Of course, this is not because everyone is unwilling to participate, but because of many force majeure. Entering the venue is also very strict. The green code of the health code, temperature measurement, wearing a mask, security check, 24-hour Shanghai local negative nucleic acid results, and ID card face recognition are all indispensable.

If you and your family members (or cohabitants) have a history of overseas travel within 10 days before the meeting, and within the previous 7 days, there are counties (cities, districts, banners, etc.) Those who have lived in the cities where temporary static management areas and key attention areas are located, or are in the centralized isolation observation period or home health monitoring period are not allowed to participate in on-site activities.

I think the above paragraph is a lore, and many people may be turned away because of this. At the end of August, a colleague in our company was diagnosed, so all of our company’s close contacts were taken to the hotel for 7 days of centralized isolation, and then 3 days of home isolation. Fortunately, we were all fine, and the lockdown was successfully lifted on September 1. The region has also been converted to risk-free. These experiences also impress me.

Even on the first day of the conference on the 14th, Typhoon Meihua landed in Shanghai. It is said to be the strongest typhoon that has passed through downtown Shanghai since the founding of New China. Many flights were suspended that afternoon. Fortunately, I arrived in Shanghai the day before, otherwise I would have missed this conference.

Due to so many external factors, some speakers did not come to the scene, but shared with us through pre-recorded videos. Some speakers were quarantined in Shanghai for ten days in advance in order to share with us on the spot.

It can be said that I am lucky to be able to participate in this conference live, and I am grateful in every way.

The theme of this Google Developers Conference is "Coding the Future Together". Together with developers and partners, with the power of technology, we will break through imagination and create a better tomorrow together!

Personally, my most direct understanding of this topic is the literal meaning, using code together to create the future. But later, I heard a theme sharing called "No one is missing, we are in action", which gave me a new understanding.

They built a "mobile open source technology laboratory" by developing "Component-Based Neural Network Interactive Generation Platform", which solved the problem of building dedicated open source technology laboratories in most primary and secondary schools at low cost. This popularity may plant a seed for the future.

Because I am doing Android development, I focused on listening to Android-related sharing. A keyword that impressed me deeply is large-screen adaptation. Because this is mentioned in the sharing of Flutter and Android games.

In recent years, with the emergence and development of folding screen devices, more and more users have used these devices. Therefore, the adaptation of using two sets of layouts for large and small screens is powerless on devices that can be large or small such as folding screens. Including the camera and interaction related issues under the large screen, I feel that our app needs to put the adaptation of the folding screen on the agenda. For more details, please refer to the topic sharing "Optimizing Your App for Large Screen Devices" below.

In fact, if you often pay attention to some official public accounts, share with the community. Most of the content shared here will be familiar to you. For example, the new features of Android 13, the release of Flutter 3, and the new policies of Google Play.

So I think one of the benefits of participating in such conferences is that you can hear and experience some content that you rarely touch, such as TensorFlow & machine learning, Google TV, etc.

For example, there are 13 booths in this venue, so you can experience it on the spot. For example, play PC games from Google Play Games, play a 3D pinball physical game console written in Flutter, and experience the TensorFlow exhibition area to convert your humming sound into various musical instruments.

Another harvest is the small physical gifts (physically) at each booth. When I come here, I come empty-handed, and when I go out, I return with a full load, haha~

In fact, there is also a prize backpack, so I won’t stimulate you in the picture above.

Finally, if you are interested in the content of this conference, you can go to the official website of the conference to learn more and watch the special speeches.
