This article will highlight the innovations in the 2023.2 release of Stimulsoft Reports and Dashboards. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the enhancements that come with working with conditional formatting in reports.

introduce

Conditional formatting in reports can be used not only as an analysis tool, but also as a way to control the behavior of components in conditional reports. However, prior to the release of version 2023.2, Stimulsoft products lacked a direct way to copy conditional formatting from one component to another. Workarounds include duplicating the conditional formatting components and modifying them afterwards.

Unfortunately, this method only works for components of the same type, which means that there is no way to copy conditional formatting from a text component to a band or vice versa. These limitations complicate the report development process and increase creation time.

What's new in conditional formatting?

First, you can now copy configured conditions to the clipboard and easily paste them on other components. Second, in the conditions editor, you can save conditions to a file and then import those conditions from the file into another report.

Where does it apply?

This feature is especially useful for reporting. As of this writing, there is currently no way to copy conditions from one element to another or save them to a file inside the dashboard.

How to copy condition?

To copy conditions, you can take advantage of the clipboard by using the "Copy" and "Paste" commands. However, it is important to note that the Copy and Paste commands in the main group of the report designer toolbar or the component context menu copy and paste the component itself, not the conditions applied to it.

To copy the conditions of a component, first select the component. Then, in the context menu of the selected component, navigate to the "Tools" group and select the "Copy" command. Likewise, to insert a condition, select a component and access the component's context menu in the Tools group, then choose the Insert command.

Save conditions to and load from file

All added and configured conditions can be saved to *.stc files. To do this, access the Condition Editor and use the "sava as..." command in the "Actions" menu . Likewise, to retrieve conditions from a file, use the "open" command in the "Actions" menu . Also, it's worth noting that in the WinForms Report Designer, the commands to save conditions to and add conditions from a file are duplicated in the context menu of components within the Tools group.

Features of adding conditions

When copying and pasting conditions from one component to another or opening conditions from a file, it is important to note that different types of report components can use different types of conditions. While all conditions will be copied, only those that are compatible with the particular component type will be inserted or added from the file. For example, text components support conditions such as Highlight ConditionData BarColor Scale , and  Icon Set On the other hand, bands only support Highlight Condition . When copying conditions from a text component, even if all types are added, only the Criteria Select conditions to copy to the band. This limitation occurs because no other type of condition is supported for this band.

Copying conditions can significantly speed up the report development process and facilitate the application of conditional formatting. Simply set the condition for one component and copy it to the Other components can save a lot of time. Additionally, saving conditions to a file and retrieving them from there allows for quick standardization of conditional formatting across multiple reports.
