Open the home page of the VMware virtual machine host. In order to prevent failures when burning the image later, here is a configuration first. Click Edit in the upper left corner of VMware, then select Preferences.
Select USB, then choose to connect the device to the host, and finally click OK.

Then click Create New Virtual Machine

Select a typical installation and click Next
- Click Browse to select the iso image you downloaded, and then click Next
- Configure the username and password of Ubuntu: If you come from the link of the embedded contest, please set the username and password to hispark as shown in the figure below, and then click Next
- Modify the name of the virtual machine to hispark, and click Browse to install the Ubuntu location to another disk. The default is the C drive. It is best to reconfigure the installation path, and then click Next
- Disk size configuration, at least 30G, if your computer disk is large enough, please select 50G, choose to store as a single file, and finally click Next
- After the virtual machine is successfully created, please click Customize Hardware and change the number of processor cores to 2 without clicking Finish. If your computer configuration is good enough, you can increase it appropriately. After the configuration is complete, click Close
- Click to finish
2. Install the Ubuntu system
- Click Finish in the previous step, Ubuntu will install and download the software by itself, the installation time is about 40 minutes, mainly depends on the personal network situation
- After the installation is successful, vm-tools will be installed automatically
- After successfully installing vm-tools, enter the login interface and enter the password: hispark
- A pop-up window of the project appears, just click next to close it. If a software update pop-up window pops up, just close it.
- Modify the software update source, click the 9 dots in the lower left corner, and open the software & update software
- Click the button on the right of Download from, and then click Other to select other download sources
- Select China, then select Ali’s download source or Huawei’s download source, and then click Close, and an input authentication dialog box will pop up, just enter the password hispark directly
- Click the close button, a reload dialog box will pop up, and then click Reload, the system will automatically reinstall the update software.
3. Modify the Ubuntu language
- If you don't want to set Ubuntu to Chinese, you can skip this chapter
- Click settings in the lower left corner of the Ubuntu desktop to set up the software.
- Click Region&Language, then click the Manage Installed Languages button
- If the install button pops up, click install, and then enter the password for authentication, you can download the language pack
- Click the install language button, then select Chinese (simplified), then check the check mark, and finally click apply to install the application
- Click Regional Formats, click the drop-down box to select Chinese (China), and click Apply System-Wide. Finally, click close.
- Then enter the settings software interface, click Language, select Chinese, and then click done (if you have done the above steps, but you do not see the Chinese option, you can restart Ubuntu first, and then perform this step)
4. Update software
- On the Ubuntu desktop, hold down the right mouse button and select Open Terminal. open command window
- Enter:
sudo apt-get update
for software updates
- re-enter
sudo apt-get upgrade
- Enter the following command to download the vim tool
sudo apt-get install vim
- Then enter reboot to restart Ubuntu to make all the above configurations take effect.
At this point, the entire configuration process of Ubuntu is completed
