The solution to the hijacking of Lenovo computer's "Open With" selector

event description

It happened in early 2022, an update of the Lenovo App Store.
In that update, a tool plugin called "LeASOpen" was added.
This plug-in forcibly bundles all file suffixes that do not specify a default open application, so that the following interface will be displayed when the file is opened, and this interface is also the main body of the "LeASOpen" plug-in.

According to Lenovo's official reply in the Lenovo community, this function is mainly to help novice users who cannot open unknown format files, and also emphasizes that this function will be improved and optimized in the future. However, two and a half months have passed since this reply, and the switch for this function has not been added to the settings.

I also express the author's opinion on this function here, it's just a guess, don't spray it if you don't like it.

  1. The application programs that can open this suffix in the computer cannot be recognized at all, causing users to repeatedly install similar software.
  2. The user error rate is extremely high. Whether you click on the "Get", "Honeyvview" area, or click on "More Apps", you will be forced to jump to the Lenovo App Store. Novices/Xiaobai themselves do not understand computers, and there is a high probability that they will click directly. Download software.

solution

The first step is to delete the program file

  1. Locate the folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LeASOpen.
  2. Delete the LeASOpen folder.
The second step is to clean up the registry
    * This operation is risky, and you need to be cautious when modifying the registry. Novices/novices do not need to perform this step.
  3. Use the Win+R shortcut to open the Run window.
  4. Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  5. 找到HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\LeASOpen
  6. Delete the entire folder of LeASOpen, be sure not to delete more! !
