Intel ditches 'i' processors, reinvents Core

Intel's classic "light, wait for the light, wait for the light" sound effects and the Core brand have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In order to make it easier for consumers to understand the positioning of the brand and different models, Intel has made a decision to reshape the processor brand.

In 2006, Intel introduced its Intel Core processors with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Since then, Intel has divided the processors according to the high, medium and low grades, including i3, i5, i7 and i9, and developed a more advanced X series on the basis of i7 and i9.

Today, starting with its upcoming Meteor Lake chips, the "i" processors are officially being dropped. This means that the Core processors will be 3, 5, 7 and 9 (Intel Core processors) instead. As for the X-series, the name will be changed to Ultra (Intel Core Ultra processor). For example, the Intel Core i7 will be called the Intel Core 7 in the future, and the Intel Core i7 X will be called the Intel Core Ultra 7.

In addition to changing the name of the Core processor, Intel's Evo certification for notebooks will also be renamed Intel Evo Edition. Meanwhile, its commercial offerings will be dubbed Intel vPro Enterprise and Intel vPro Essentials.

This brand structure adjustment is also Intel's first adjustment since the launch of the Core series.
