After layoffs, I submitted 300 resumes, interviewed 22 companies, and finally landed!

This is an inspirational story of a group of friends. Although life is hard, it is worthwhile to work hard in the direction you want!

109 days of job hunting, 2212 communications, 355 resume submissions, 22 interviews, 10% salary increase, and finally landed, here is a review of my experience, I hope it will be helpful to everyone

1

I started unemployed in early February of this year. The company that laid off employees was an entrepreneurial company. Because the capital chain was broken, the entire department laid off employees.

I have only been in this company for 7 months, and it took a long time before I agreed to pay the compensation. Some colleagues got it through arbitration, which is a little guarantee of unemployment, and then I started my long job search. road.

Let me introduce my professional background first. I graduated from three electronic information engineering in 2016. I have been engaged in php development in Beijing for 17 years. I will switch to java development in 2020. I have more than 6 years of development experience so far.

[1] In the first month of job hunting, from freeing oneself to a little anxiety

From February 6, 2023, I began to submit resumes to recruitment software such as boss recruitment, Lagou, and Liepin.

I was not in a hurry at first, I had just left the job, and I had some compensation, and suddenly I didn’t have to go to work, I was so happy that I woke up naturally every day, and I brushed my resume from time to time.

At that time, there were very few positions on the boss, and there were not many places to apply for. Some positions were released three or four months ago. Kanmaimai is also full of companies laying off employees, not recruiting people, and complaining.

After a month, I started to feel anxious. Why can't the companies read the resumes I submitted? Is it my age or my resume? Or other questions?

I added a few headhunters on WeChat before, and I chatted with them. Not everyone takes you seriously, but I met my noble person, and a kind headhunter came back to me.

She told me that they have no work recently, and no company is recruiting people. She asked for my resume, and showed my resume to the programmers of the successful big factories that she recommended before, and gave me a lot of opinions. I have been approached by voice many times, telling me which places need to be modified and how to modify them.

This can be regarded as going out to meet a noble person, and I sent a red envelope to thank you afterwards, but they didn't accept it.

[2] In the second month of job hunting, I finally had my first interview opportunity since I was unemployed, and I got a bloody offer

I submitted 500+ resumes during the period from 2.6 to 3.28, and finally received my first interview since leaving the company on 3.29, an online Tencent meeting.

The interviewer mainly asked some stereotyped essays and how to deal with the difficulties encountered in the project. It's been a long time since I had an interview, so the answers are average, but because the company's industry is the same as that of the previous company, I feel that the interviewer is quite satisfied.

After the interview in the afternoon, I received a salary negotiation call from HR in the evening! The salary was reduced by 10% compared to before, the minimum five insurances and one housing fund, the most important thing is that the contract only writes half of the salary, and the other half is transferred through the financial WeChat , which instantly feels unreasonable. If such a contract is signed, someday the company will not work. , only the salary of the contract! Rejected on the spot and continued to submit resumes.

[3] In the third month of job hunting, the spring is warm and flowers are blooming, and two offers rekindle confidence

Since April, the number of positions in the company has gradually increased. Most of them are start-up companies. Small companies send me interview invitations. .

The smallest company I went to now has three people, one boss, one front-end, and one product manager. It was the product manager who interviewed me and talked about some technologies. He was interested in my 7 months of industry experience in the previous company. He mainly wanted me to build projects from scratch.

After the interview in the afternoon, I received a salary negotiation call in the evening. The salary increase was 10%, and the five social insurances and one housing fund were the lowest. The salary was divided into 3 parts, 30 % of the basic salary, 40% of the performance salary, and 30% of the post salary . What kind of salary structure is this? I have worked for more than six years and have encountered many companies, but I have never seen this kind of company.

The company is really too small, one day it will collapse, only 30% of the basic salary, and it was rejected again. But after all, I interviewed 4 companies and got offers from 2 companies. It was a little swollen, and the pass rate was 50%. There will definitely be better jobs in the future. Come on, haha!

[4] Facts have proved that I was happy too early. In late April, I fell into despair

Seeing that various people on Maimai and Douyin are unemployed and anxious about selling, I feel the same way.

I have nothing to do every day except submitting my resume, staring at the computer in a daze in the rented room, and now I am in a crazy mood. If there is a company that wants me, I can just feed me and pay my salary on time. I don’t care about outsourcing or not. Kong Yiji faced Life has to take off the gown too.

During the period, I also applied for several outsourcing companies, and added hr WeChat. HR told me that there were a lot of people interviewing recently. He pushed forward as soon as possible, and finally interviewed with one company, but it was too far away. The position is located in Daxing, where I live In Changping, I was not offered an offer in the end.

Later, I passed the interview with one family, and after talking with me about the salary, there was no follow-up. Every time I asked hr, it said that the leader was communicating. Maybe there are too many candidates?

This company has been in the ink for two weeks. HR told the company to adjust its strategy. This position needs to be recruited in a non-Beijing office, and the anger came up in an instant. Only two weeks? Delete people directly.

Looking at the recruitment software, I already feel a little disgusted, and I am really not in the mood to read it anymore. I feel dizzy after watching too much, and I have communicated with more than 2000+ bosses.

【5】Nothing was gained in the first ten days of May. From doubting life to positive review and then to despair, is it necessary to be middle-aged?

It started in May, and at this time, my boss has communicated with hrs more than 1500+. I began to reflect on why I submitted so many resumes and only had so few interviews, and I also tried to get answers from those hrs who couldn't read them back, or sent them that didn't match the position.

Most of the hrs just ignore it after reading it, but there are also kind hrs who told me some reasons. I have summarized the following main points:

1. Academic qualifications do not match

Requirements 211,985, at least one undergraduate or graduate degree

2. Past industry experience or work experience does not match

Experience in large factories or large-scale Internet projects is required

3. Supply exceeds demand.
I have opened a boss membership (really expensive), and I can see my own competitiveness for posted jobs 3 times a day.

For a position in a small company, there are at least 200 people submitting, and the highest I have seen is 1500+ people submitting.

This number is indeed true! Because during the period, I also helped my friend's company interview and develop. My friend said that he received hundreds of resumes a day and more than 3,000 resumes a week. This is true for small companies, but it is even more exaggerated for large and medium-sized companies.

I also have a few companies that said to offer but didn't end up. The technical team leader passed the interview, the technical supervisor passed the interview, and the boss of the company passed the interview, and he verbally agreed to the offer, but in the end there was no letter.

I guess they found a better match in salary and ability, after all, there are so many job seekers. .

4. Age restrictions

Some companies require under 30 years old, even under 28 years old

Don’t criticize this point. The Internet has a lot of overtime work. Young people are strong. They work in a company. A post-00s guy worked overtime for 5 days on the project until the early morning. He slept in the company for 5 days and bought a folding bed with his own money. sleep. It was agreed to rectify the workplace after 2000. This is clearly to kill the post-90s!

5. Stereotypes are not familiar enough

This is the most important point. Interview to build a rocket, go in and screw the screws. The rocket is not built yet, how can there be a chance to screw the screw? To put it another way, this is the same as the college entrance examination. Why do you want to go to university if your score is not enough? I can't remember stereotyped essays, which shows that the memory and learning ability are not paid enough attention.

After analyzing my own problems, I revised my resume, improved job matching, highlighted my own highlights, read the stereotyped essays every day, and started again. Then the next week was like a cheating job, and I interviewed 10 companies within a week! ! ! (Of course, there are so many interview opportunities, which are inseparable from the headhunter's advice on revising my resume)

But the reality still gave me a heavy blow, and there was still no offer.

My family also started to worry about me, calling me every day to ask me how my job search was going. My parents, two elderly people in their 60s, could not read a single word, and asked me if I had any money? No, they went to the bank to transfer some money to me, or asked people they knew to transfer money to me through WeChat.

When I heard this at the time, I burst into tears, hating myself for not living up to my expectations, for making them worry about me when I was young, and let them worry about me when I grow up.

Later, I also thought about it, I can just take it out, or leave Beijing and go back to my hometown!

But I'm not reconciled, I didn't earn money, I didn't have a living, so I just left, it's too useless!

[6] In late May, the final twist

From 5.22 to 5.26, I didn’t submit my resume. I knew all the positions and companies on the boss. It became a big human data.

In the same company, I applied for different HRs, and I have even submitted different recruitment software for the same position in the same company. If you have a good attitude, I will tell you that it is not suitable, and most of them have not been read back.

When I am discouraged, there will always be a turning point. On a hot afternoon, I was in a daze, looking up at the sky at 45 degrees, thinking about where to go in my life. A phone call from hr broke the tranquility.

She said that she could meet my expected salary, talked about the company's salary structure, and then confirmed the email with me and sent me an offer. The feeling and excitement are beyond words, and all the waiting is worth it.

The next day, the same heat, the same I was thinking about life, another hr called me!

The first sentence at the beginning is, why did you delete my WeChat? I sent you a message and it shows that you are not a friend.

Can you guess which company this HR is? It's just suing the hr with me for two weeks! I won't delete you, keep it for Chinese New Year?

Then he went on to say that you said you would accept the price negotiation, but our company still did not cut your price after discussion and met your expected salary. Then he also told me to confirm the salary and sent me an offer.

It is estimated that God also heard my prayer. In March and April, I went to the temple several times to burn incense. I must go to pay my wish sometime.

I joined the job next week. After 109 days, I got a 10% salary increase. I successfully landed and returned to work as a migrant worker. Looking back, I have grown a lot in this long job hunting journey, from idleness to anxiety, from a job search rookie to an interview expert, and I have not given up on it. I hope my tortuous experience can help people who come later, and I wish you all good luck! ! !

Written at the end: The current employment environment is indeed not ideal. It is very sad not to be able to find a job, and those who are looking for a job are very tired. Anyway, adjust your mentality, come on!
