Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) GPM: Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) v6 is an international satellite mission that provides a new generation of observations of rain and snow around the world every three hours. The Integrated Multisatellite Retrieval of Global Precipitation Measurements (IMERG) is a unified algorithm that provides precipitation estimates from data from all passive microwave instruments in the global precipitation measurement constellation.

The algorithm is designed to mutually calibrate, combine, and interpolate all satellite microwave precipitation estimates, while also including microwave calibrated infrared (IR) satellite estimates, precipitation instrument analysis, and possibly other precipitation estimates, at fine-grained time and spatial scales to estimate TRMM and GPM ages globally. The system runs several times for each observation time, first giving a quick estimate, followed by better estimates as more data becomes available. The Climate Hazards Group Infrared Precipitation and Station Data (CHIRPS) is a quasi-global precipitation dataset over 30 years. CHIRPS combines 0.05° resolution satellite imagery and in situ station data to create gridded rainfall time series for trend analysis and seasonal drought monitoring.
