What is the difference between NFT collections and works of art ? What factors affect the form of NFT collections/products ?
Xiaodu
NFT collections need to be " on-chain " for title confirmation and transaction circulation. " Authenticity guarantee " is a necessary element for both NFT collections and artworks. Circulation is the "life" that distinguishes NFT collections from artworks.

Artworks in the real world have their own set of artistic evaluation standards, but the current artistic value system of NFT collections has yet to be established and improved. Just imagine, if an NFT collection casting is on a "dead" chain, there are no users and no trading opportunities, and there is no guarantee of its scarcity and uniqueness, only a long list of hash values that do not reflect any value. Even if the price is ¥9999, it cannot be sold or circulated, and it can only be a string of characters that occupy memory.

At present, the form of NFT collections/products is still relatively single, with pictures as the mainstream form, and there are also relatively new forms such as videos and games. The form of NFT products is closely related to partners, platforms, product target users, on-chain costs, circulation and payment mechanisms, and hot events . I've been exploring "sound" casting windings lately, and it's been a lot of fun .

Speaking of the fun of NFT collections, I recently discovered Art Blocks, a platform that automatically generates codes and uploads them to the chain. Let’s have a look~
Art Blocks is the first NFT trading platform focused on programmatically generated content, which is stored on the Ethereum blockchain. After the user pays, the platform sends the algorithm-generated works to the user's Ethereum account. The forms of works include static images, 3D models and various interactive experiences. Every output from Art Blocks is different, and there are endless possibilities for the type of content that can be created on the platform.

NFT collections are randomly generated by codes, so what else can artists do? How to balance randomness, aesthetic value and rarity ?
Xiaodu
Artists do not fully entrust the creative rights to the code. If an artist uses P5js to make a project script, it will be stored immutably on the Ethereum blockchain. This work needs to be done by the artist to ensure the basic beauty of the work . When a user wants to purchase a project hosted on the platform and freely generate works iteratively, the user can use a "non-fungible token" stored on the Ethereum blockchain to control script variables. These variables will control how the output looks and operates .
Take the Chromie Squiggle project as an example:
Chromie Squiggle #0
token seed is
0x11ac128f8b54949c12d04102cfc01960fc496813cbc3495bf77aeed738579738。
Each "seed", also known as a "hash string", is a hexadecimal string generated in a pseudo-random manner when the token is minted. Each character (0-9, af) represents a value from 0-15, and each pair of characters ("aa" or "f2") represents a value from 0-255. The y-coordinate of each point in the curve is determined by the value of the hex pair in the seed. The hexadecimal correspondences in the seed control the starting color of the image, the rate of change of the gradient, and some "surprises", "easter eggs", etc. that make some curves rarer than others. The rarity of the work can be reflected by this.
When deploying a project on the Art Blocks platform, artists can adjust and modify scripts and settings, once the project is locked (such as the maximum number of iterations, which is the maximum number of iterations allowed to mint), the script, project name, artist name and generated hash number and other attributes will be permanently frozen. After the project is locked, the artist can still modify the description and the price of each iteration to adapt to changes in the price of Ethereum.

The theory is too abstract, how about an example to show the effect?
- Quantum Collapses
# Author description
The Quantum Collapse Project is at the intersection of art, science and technology. It is an evolving, interacting journey through the Hilbert space in which quantum states exist. The richness and mystery of this space reminds our subconscious.

NFT works can not only be iteratively generated with code, but also have a variety of interactive experience forms, which has gained a lot of knowledge.
- Through the Window
# Author description
Inspired by traditional Chinese architecture and Chinese paintings, the project uses algorithms to generate window lattices with different patterns and flowers and trees in different postures, together with possible rain and snow scenes, they form a picture frame with an oriental aesthetic charm. These scenes are dynamic, such as slowly moving window frames, trees growing, raining. We can imagine being indoors, looking at the crumbling tree shadow outside the window, or looking inside the window from the same angle as the current picture. Maybe we're looking for memories, maybe we're looking for hope, anyone can write their own poems.

Wow, a generative NFT of Chinese style! This reminds me that if we link up with local museums to carry out cultural and creative projects , wonderful content may be collided.

The chiseled computer interface in 1997's mid-gray always reminded me of sculpture created in bas-relief, a technique that dates back to petroglyphs as old as humanity's first steps in making art. The combination of illusion and touch found in these interfaces speaks to our desire to make the computer experience a part of the physical world.
