Detailed guidance on Ubuntu20.04 installation steps
Preface : Ubuntu is a Linux development environment with a beautiful desktop and a good software ecosystem. We choose Ubuntu 20.04. The following introduces the installation of Ubuntu dual system. There are three installation methods:
- U disk installation
- VMware virtual machine installation
- Wubi installation
If it is convenient to install again in the future, or to install the system for multiple computers, you can make a U disk installation image. Therefore, this article introduces the U disk installation mode.
Ubuntu U disk installation steps
1. Need resources
One U disk (back up data in advance)
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS mirror download ubuntu-20.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso

Two, window settings
1. Partition
Purpose: To open up a hard disk storage area for the Ubuntu system on the basis of the existing windows partition.
Method: On the desktop, click the "This Computer" icon (right click) –> Manage –> Disk Management, select a relatively large hard disk partition, and click it. For example, select and click the "F:" drive letter.
Right-click to select the compressed volume, enter the size of the space to be compressed, and you will get a corresponding free space, as shown in the figure below, about 82G, which is used as the Ubuntu system disk.
To generate the system space prepared by the Ubuntu system, the prompt is as follows:
2. Make boot disk
Open the Rufus creation tool, select the corresponding iso image, and start creating a boot disk.
If the computer uses a U disk to start and cannot recognize the U disk, set the partition type to MBR and change it to GPT. if prompted
Select "Yes", download the file and prompt
After selecting "OK", start to make the U disk image file, and the final production is completed.
3. Ubuntu installation
1. Enter Bios to set the boot mode of U disk
Generally, press F2 when starting up or restarting, and press F1 when restarting for some new models. Exit after setting, press F12 to start, and select Ubuntu to start.
2. After the U disk is started, select Ubuntu to test whether the installation conditions are met.
Note: I use a Dell desktop hardware motherboard. Since the hard disk supports the Intel RST control mode by default, the RST control mode does not support the direct installation of the ubuntu20.04 system. It is necessary to change the Bios settings and the registry, support the AHCI control mode, and confirm that the changes are successful before the Ubuntu system installation can be satisfied. Tip: I used Ghost to back up the windows system first, then modified the SATA hard disk access of Bios to AHCI, and reinstalled the Win10 system.
If the installation conditions are met, the system will enter the ubuntu installation interface and select Chinese.

5. Choose either full installation or minimal installation. If you are connected to the network, you can also tick the following two options.

7. System partition. Partition settings for the reserved 82G hard disk space.
Click the free space at the bottom and click the + sign to create a new partition.
Divided into four areas, namely
- / Root directory, generally more than 15G, mine is 25G;
- /boot startup directory, the directory required for booting (200M-2G);
- swap swap space, generally as large as memory, about 8G;
- /home Home directory, the directory for storing user data, generally take all the remaining space, recommend / and /home a little more. (about 58G)

8. Click Install Now, select the urban area, set the user, until the final installation is successful, and then unplug the U disk when restarting. If you restart to enter windows, you can enter bios to set ubuntu to start. This article takes the DELL motherboard as an example, you can modify the boot sequence of the installed dual system, as shown in the figure below.
Then, you can install WeChat, QQ, Baidu Netdisk, etc. on Ubuntu 20.04 to enjoy the unique charm of Ubuntu.
