The Graphical User Interface (GUI) does exactly what it says it does. It provides a user interface with graphical menus, icons, dialog boxes, wizards and other visual elements. An alternative to using the MongoDB GUI is to use the mongo shell, though Studio 3T still has IntelliShell—an easy-to-navigate built-in version—when you need it.

We introduced the Connections sidebar in Studio 3T 2023.1. We've improved it in this release and added a new option to make it easier to see which connections, databases, or collections a tab is using. When you select another tab or the active tab changes, the Open Connections sidebar automatically selects the appropriate item in the tree. You can turn off this behavior by opening the Preferences dialog and clearing the Track active tab paths in the connection tree check box on the General tab.

When creating or editing documents, Studio 3T now uses the most efficient data type to store fields with numeric values. So instead of using a floating point number to store the value, 12, an integer is inserted into the MongoDB document. This is in line with recent changes to the mongo shell.

AI for MongoDB
AI Helper is an AI query builder that takes your questions (sysin) written in natural language and converts them into queries that can be run on your MongoDB database. AI Helper can write complex queries, including aggregations. Run queries and view answers to questions in the panel at the bottom of the IntelliShell tab.
Which AI is AI Helper compatible with ?
AI Helper is compatible with OpenAI GPT-3.5.
How do I link AI Helper with my OpenAI account ?
You will need an OpenAI API key if you don't already have one. You can generate an OpenAI API key through the following link: https://platform.openai.com/account/api-keys.
- In Studio 3T, open the Preferences dialog and select the IntelliShell tab (sysin). Paste your key into the OpenAI API key box and click OK.
- If you already have IntelliShell open in Studio 3T with AI Helper open, the configure button will take you to the IntelliShell tab where you can type or paste your API key.
Will AI Helper share my data ?
Studio 3T does not share field values, but it does share parts of your schema or document structure. It shares the collection name, field name, and field type with OpenAI's service on every request over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
How to use the AI assistant ?
- Select a database or a collection in the Collections sidebar.
- Open IntelliShell.
- Click the AI Helper button.
- Start typing your question into the box. If you selected a database in the Collections sidebar, click Select Source to select your collection before you start typing. You can add multiple collections from the same database.
- Click Generate Query. AI Helper writes your query in the left panel.
- Hit the run button to get your answer. IntelliShell displays the answer in the bottom panel.
