What is Rider?

JetBrains Rider is a cross-platform .NET IDE based on the IntelliJ platform and ReSharper.

Support for multiple .NET project types

Rider supports .NET Framework, the new cross-platform framework .NET Core and Mono-based projects. This allows you to develop a wide range of applications including: .NET desktop applications, services and libraries, Unity games, Xamarin apps, ASP.NET and ASP.NET Core web applications.

Rich in features and fast

Rider offers more than 2200 active code inspections, hundreds of contextual actions and refactorings from ReSharper, combined with the solid IDE features of the IntelliJ platform. In addition to a rich feature set (sysin), Rider is designed to be lightweight and responsive.

Cross-platform

In addition to running and debugging multiple runtimes, Rider itself runs on multiple platforms: Windows, macOS, and Linux.

code analysis

Rider offers more than 2,200 real-time code inspections, as well as automated quick-fixes to address detected issues individually or in bulk. Error analysis of the entire solution will monitor code issues, letting you know of any possible errors, even with unopened files.

code editing

Rider's editor is powerful and rich, including: different kinds of code completion and code templates, automatic insertion of matching braces and import instructions, quick information tooltips and spacing icons for legacy navigation, contextual actions, and more.

refactor

Most of ReSharper's 60+ refactorings are available in Rider (sysin), and its 450+ context actions are also available in Rider. Rename, extract methods, interfaces and classes, move and copy types, use alternative syntax, and more!

unit test runner

Rider helps you run and debug unit tests based on NUnit, xUnit.net or MSTest. You can browse tests, group tests in different ways, subdivide tests into sessions, view test output, and navigate from stack traces to source code.

Debugger

Debugger and more tools

Rider includes a debugger for .NET Framework, Mono, and .NET Core applications that can perform stepping, watching, evaluating, and run-to-cursor actions. Other tools include: stack trace browser, NuGet browser, VCS, and support database.

Database and SQL

Use SQL and databases without leaving Rider. Connect to databases, edit schema and tabular data, run queries, and even analyze schemas with UML diagrams.

Navigation and Search

Instantly jump to any file, type, or member in your codebase, and quickly find settings and actions. Find the usage of any symbol, or navigate from a symbol to a base or derived symbol, extension method, or implementation.

Front-end development technology

Rider has built-in support for JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Sass. Take advantage of the refactoring, debugging, and unit testing capabilities built into WebStorm.

scalability

True to its origins, Rider supports various plugins developed for ReSharper and IntelliJ Platform. In addition to the bundled plugins (such as those supporting VCS, F#, and Unity), there are also .gitignoreplugins that support Markdown, files, and Python scripts.
