How to Get an IT Job in the US

As for whether it is better at home or abroad, where there are more opportunities, individuals have their own ideas. It is said that radish and cabbage also have their own love, and everyone has the right to pursue their own dreams, happiness and freedom. Don't talk nonsense, let's talk about the main point.

This year, it is actually much easier for IT migrant workers to come to work in the United States than in earlier years. When I started working in the laboratory of the test school in my junior year, I thought that there was only one way for a domestic undergraduate student like me to go to the United States. Then I would apply for a graduate student in an American university, and then I would find a job after graduation and stay in the United States. there. But a few years after graduation, I found that many of my classmates and colleagues, although they did not go to the United States to study, all went to work in the United States. Most of the IT companies that go to the California Bay Area are Silicon Valley.

Later, with the mentality of giving it a try, I contacted a senior brother who worked in Silicon Valley and asked if there was a chance for me to try it too. He said that he can send his English resume to him, and I don't need to worry about the rest. After a few weeks, the HR over there started to contact me. It's a pity that although I didn't go to the company he recommended later, I still successfully applied for another IT company in Silicon Valley with a similar process. Stumbling and stumbling, step by step, I crossed the ocean to work in Silicon Valley.

Not to mention the twists and turns, my situation is a bit special. But the basic idea is the same, mainly look at three points, take three steps:

three points:

1. The technology is good.

2. Good English.

3. Good relationship.

Three steps:

4. Submit your resume.

5. Interview.

6. Get the H1B visa.

Three-Body Problem:

7. Oh, there is no Three-Body Problem, "Three-Body Problem" is a novel :-) The

technology is good and easy to understand. Many IT companies in Silicon Valley are top-notch in the world, and of course they recruit excellent talents. It is often difficult to pass the test if you want to rely on cleverness, or a beautifully packaged resume, or flickering words during an interview.

These people are easy to identify because of the interview process specific to large IT companies. What is good technology, in fact, it is more about examining whether a person is smart, and it has little to do with whether you know how much technology you know or not. Therefore, large IT companies interview about data structures, algorithms, and so on. In fact, they are not used much in real work.

But these are the foundations of every CS professional, just use this basic language or knowledge to examine and dig whether you are smart, and whether your ideas and reflections are fast enough. From this point of view, although simply doing algorithm questions can make you more proficient in interview questions, it does not necessarily make you smarter. It is still necessary to study more, summarize more, think more, and exercise your logical thinking ability. It's crucial to get your brain running high during the interview and show your fastest and most logical side.

English is good. Needless to say, when you come to work in the United States, it is impossible to speak Chinese with your colleagues. Although there are many Chinese engineers in Silicon Valley, English is still used in work and life. Especially when applying for an interview, poor communication in English is a problem, not to mention how to examine skills.

I was fortunate enough to start working in the Hangzhou branch of a large foreign company after graduating from school, actually before graduation. The working language is English. Although my English was very poor at the beginning, I persisted in studying at work and used various opportunities to practice my English, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and persevering. English has gradually become a tool for communication, not a burden. English ability is like a channel to release the energy you have accumulated in technology to a wider platform through the communication channel of English ability, that is, to Silicon Valley.

Now that I think about it, I am really grateful to my university mentors, my bosses and colleagues in my first company, for giving me so many opportunities to accumulate skills, learn and practice English. Another example of mine personally is entering another homegrown internet company after the first company I left later. However, although the second company has international business, the technical team is completely domestic, the working language is Chinese, and there is not even a single English question or self-introduction during the interview.

Shortly after joining the company, I found that I could not use English at all in my work. In order not to waste the English ability I had accumulated over the years, I began to insist on writing a weekly work summary in English, also called a weekly report. I estimate that I may be the only one in the company's local technical team of more than a thousand people who insists on writing weekly reports in English.

It has been two years since I wrote this. Although others may seem to me that I may be different or not in the mainstream, I know that this is good for myself, so I still persevere. This allows me to communicate without obstacles in the subsequent phone interviews, on-site interviews in the United States, or when I need English to communicate with lawyers on H1B visas. I am also very grateful to the boss of my second company. He is very open-minded and let me write the weekly newspaper in English. Sometimes he even communicates with me why a sentence is written in English.

Good popularity, in fact, has a lot to do with submitting a resume. Generally, only fresh graduates or just graduated for a year or two can blindly submit resumes. Generally, for students with work experience who want to go to a big IT company, the best way to submit a resume is to find classmates and friends who work in that company that they know, and submit their resume through the internal recommendation process.

Large IT companies have many job seekers, and blindly submitted resumes are likely to be drowned in the vast sea of resumes. Internal referrals can not only get you a greater chance of interviews, but once you are successful, the recommenders often have bonuses to take. Do more than one thing, why not do it? However, for people to help recommend, the important thing is that you feel that you have met the above conditions of good technology and good English, otherwise people will be embarrassed to recommend you.

If the company doesn't give you an opportunity to interview, it's hard to explain it to you; if you give it a chance to interview, you fail in the end, and it's a waste of everyone's time. Therefore, it is best to feel that you are more confident, and then find someone to recommend it, which saves everyone's time and has a greater chance of successful application.

There should be a lot of face-to-face interviews online. But in fact, big ITs have job info pages with more comprehensive information, which usually tell what kind of talents they expect to find, what knowledge they should prepare for interviews, and what the process is like. As long as you usually have enough accumulation, two or three months of preparation before the formal interview should be enough. There is also a website, careercup.com, which summarizes the interview questions and procedures of major IT companies, and also published a book, which is a good reference.

If the interview goes well, congratulations, the following is the tedious H1B visa process. The most common type of visa for IT migrant workers to work in the United States is the H1B.

Don't worry about your wife (husband) and children, they can come to the United States with you through H4 visa. H1B visa is the only visa that allows immigrant intent (L1 visa may also allow, not sure). Generally, the company will have a professional visa lawyer team to help you complete the visa, so you don't have to worry too much. But the only thing to note is that the H1B applications issued by the United States to foreigners are limited every year. Now there are about 65,000 places a year. Note that this is a place for people from all over the world who want to work in the United States with H1B status, so it is still relatively nervous.

USCIS's H1B petition approval begins in April each year. It usually takes 15 days to several months to be approved. Then go to your local U.S. consulate with the approved documents to apply for an H1B visa. But a troublesome thing is that even if you pass the approval of the immigration bureau early and get the H1B visa, you can only officially come to the United States to start working on October 1 of that year (you can enter the country 10 days in advance, which is 9 You can enter the country after March 20), which is the regulation of the US Immigration Service.

So based on this information, you can consider when you are willing to start submitting your resume. The entire interview process may take a month, or even two months, if you want to come to the United States for an on site interview. After passing the interview and getting the offer, when will you resign, how long do you need to wait for the H1B visa to enter the country, and so on.

Once the offer is done, the H1B visa is done, and there is nothing to stand in the way.Generally, large IT companies will provide good relocation benefits, and you can talk to HR students for details. Because of the perfect relocation service, it is not difficult to move your family to the United States, but there are many steps and it is more cumbersome. It is enough to be patient and successful.

Long-winded and long-winded, I feel that the writing is not too detailed. Expanded to write estimates can write a book. I hope to provide a general understanding and impression to those students who are just around the corner. In fact, as an IT migrant worker, it is not difficult to work in Silicon Valley.
