Talk about football youth training, Chinese education and engineer training

I have been watching football since the World Cup in 1998. From the earliest domestic Shenhua fans, to the long-term watching of the football of the Premier League, the football of the La Liga duo, I can be regarded as an old football fan with a little experience. I've always wanted to talk about football youth training. Under Moyes' leadership of Manchester United this year, the football was extremely ugly and the game was lost. I think I found an opportunity. The more you watch the game, the less excited you are, and the more rational you are watching the game. Like many competitive sports, you cannot accurately predict the outcome of a game, but after analyzing the game in the long run, you can see many problems, and it is clear at a glance who is stronger and who is weaker. Although I almost never lost a match against Manchester United, but looking at the posts on the domestic forums, scolding is always inevitable, but the blind personality cult and deification of Ferguson has reached a point where it is hopeless. . I believe that many Manchester United fans, like me, miss the amazing Ferguson 92 team, among which Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Beckham are the most talented. The youth academy players that still exist in the team, Rooney can be regarded as half of the Manchester United youth academy, half of the Everton youth academy product, the pure Manchester United youth academy, that is, Welbeck and Cleverley, plus new ones this year. The Januzaj (this person is still young, strictly speaking, it is necessary to wait for a sufficient age to determine which club's youth training), both in terms of quantity and quality, are not the same. On the other hand, we keep seeing good young people leaving Manchester United because they don't get first-team opportunities, such as G Rossi a few years ago, and Pogba who moved to Juventus not long ago.

Think again of the decline of the England national team. In fact, the performance of the England national team has not been good in the past 20 years, but it has shown a rapid decline in recent years. Including Ferdinand, Neville and others have complained that the youth training seedlings in England have no successor. At the same time as modern football evolves, the Premier League has become the most intense, fastest and most physically confrontational league, attracting the most fans. However, on the one hand, the local players lack the basic technical training of natural man-ball integration, and prematurely accept the tactics and super physical training that are full of backward football culture. These things have gradually become the selection of the youth teams of various clubs in England. An important reference standard for talent. So we see rough guys with burly stature or outstanding speed, who can't even stop the golf ball, and can't even get the basic pass in place; Young people who are a little thinner but with outstanding skills don't get the training for competition at all. It is true that the earliest English football is considered to be a success, but the idea of football also needs to develop, the culture of English football is so ingrained, it has become so slow and difficult to develop.

Turn around and look at the La Masia youth academy. Although I don't like the operation mode of La Liga, the two giants and other clubs play with them, but I have never been able to really continue to form a situation of competition among the heroes; but there is no denying that the La Masia Youth Academy is the best youth academy in the world, none of them. Thiago's departure in the summer is actually a good thing. When the Barcelona first team with Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas piled up in the middle of the midfield appeared in front of the young players, it was indeed a way to get more It's a good way to play, let alone a Bayern who is also a giant. These first-team midfielders all originated from Barcelona's youth training and are world-class stars, so they forced their future stars away, just because the competition was too fierce, which is also something to be proud of. On the other hand, Barcelona's adherence to its football philosophy is as respectable as it is to follow. When we recall Manchester United's style of play, it is easy to think of wide crosses and quick counterattacks, but we can also hear many words; however, when it comes to Barcelona, almost everyone has the same opinion, The use of pitch space, smooth short-range passing and high-pressure pressing, this style of football has been adhered to from youth teams at all levels. Under the guidance of Barcelona's football philosophy, youth team talent selection also pays more attention to the skills of man-ball integration. In Cruyff's words, "We never value the physical quality of players, and we never give players before the age of 16. Instill tactics, we always pursue the children's ability to control football". This is also the reason why Messi, who is only 1.40 meters old at the age of 11, was able to stay after the trial. We see that the trend of football in the world has gradually tilted towards the football concept of Barcelona, but the youth training is far from there, especially for the youth training of English clubs, it is a long process.

Well, jump out of football youth training and come to China's education model. I myself am an experiencer and victim of the Chinese educational model. Its biggest problem lies in two points, one is the unified standard, which seriously stifles the creative ability of children; the other is the excessive indoctrination of knowledge.

We can find countless examples of traditional education's stifling of creativity. I used to think that China's basic education is actually good, and we need to improve it when we are in high school and university. Now I don't think so. The worst education in China is actually the part of nine-year compulsory education. When the unified answer and teaching mode are widely adopted, there is only the process of "listening to the lecture -> thinking -> coming up with the answer -> listening to the teacher's standard answer -> the teacher explaining why the standard answer is correct". All subjects focus on liberal arts subjects, and liberal arts subjects focus on reading comprehension. For example, as long as it is said and written by famous people, it has become so reasonable, and the unreasonable answer will do everything possible to make it reasonable. You can have different opinions, but you cannot express different opinions in the exam. In the end, everyone becomes the slave of the exam.

There are countless examples of this over-indoctrination of knowledge. Especially those crazy science competitions, those skills that allow students to accept and master in advance. Students are miserable, going from someone with a lot of interest in a subject to a truly well-rounded mediocrity. For children of the same age, Chinese children generally have several times more knowledge than children in other countries, but they have not yet learned to be human beings, they have not yet learned to be independent, and besides passive indoctrination, they have not yet learned how to really "search for ” and “learning” knowledge. During my studies, I always hated English, and never really liked mathematics. The grades in these two subjects were always between "passable" and "passable", but after work, I gradually liked them; As for physics, chemistry, and biology, my grades were pretty good before, but it wasn't until after work that I took the initiative to buy some of their books and read them.

I would like to say two things about the recent discussion about reducing the proportion of English test scores in the college entrance examination, or even canceling the English test. First of all, although the reform of Chinese education is really urgent, we cannot expect earth-shaking changes, a revolution, such a slow progress is still trying and moving forward in a good place. For now, if there is an opportunity to give When children are given basic education, they should consider choosing a better educational environment than traditional Chinese education. Secondly, English itself may not be as important as Chinese and mathematics, but it is undoubtedly the most basic tool for many research and creative work; but for most people, future work and The connection with English is too small. If I choose to reduce the proportion of subjects, I would rather cut off some subjects specific to science and liberal arts, as well as brainwashing courses such as politics. In terms of the importance of basic subjects, English is more important than them.

Finally, back to the issue of software engineer training, we can get some associations and experiences from the above things. First of all, not everyone is suitable for software, I think at least most people are not suitable (see the article "You are not suitable for being a programmer" ). Secondly, for software engineers, English is essential, without it, there is a lack of a basic and powerful tool (see "Programmers Learn English" ). Thirdly, combined with basic education, engineers must have a good mathematical foundation. Mathematical problems are the way to go for all difficult problems in engineering, and other problems are not so difficult to solve. This is what I gradually realized. Finally, under the condition of complete foundation, only by participating and experiencing as much as possible, facing and solving various practical problems (rather than being trapped in an ivory tower of research), can we truly do a good job in "engineering" ".

Compared with football youth training, the training of engineers by enterprises also has a unique style. After a long time, what kind of company will be marked with what kind of brand, and what kind of quality will the talents possess. For example, a company that does infrastructure can cultivate some C++ gurus. From another dimension, some companies do not focus on cultivating people, but use money to quickly poach people everywhere. This can also be successful, just like a few upstarts such as Manchester City in the Premier League; and some companies can also provide graduates. Training programs, and even close cooperation with colleges and universities, this model is exactly the same as those famous football youth academies.

Think of Chinese education, the stifling of creativity and the instillation of knowledge, the consequences of this can be said to be still raging in this industry. As an experienced colleague told me, there are many people who are "knowledge-based" talents. They may have extensive experience and rich knowledge, but they lack the ability to solve practical problems, which sounds great. It looks like you get stuck when you give a specific question... Isn't this the problem brought about by traditional Chinese education? This problem may continue for many years.
