Shared traffic package is a prepaid package for BGP traffic, the price is lower than postpaid traffic, and supports peak and valley traffic packages during idle time, which greatly reduces the cost of BGP traffic.

Shared data package products cover a wide range, and can be used by ECS, EIP, SLB and NAT gateways that are billed by flow. So, how much can the shared traffic package reduce the cost for users? Which business scenarios are suitable for? How to use it?
First of all, how much cost can be reduced for users by sharing the data package?
As shown in the figure below, the comparison between the unit price of postpaid traffic and the unit price of shared traffic package.

Take the Hong Kong region as an example and take a 5TB traffic package as an example. The cost comparison is as follows.
Postpaid elastic public IP (EIP), load balancing SLB, NAT gateway, the unit price of ECS public network traffic is 1 yuan/GB, and the unit price of prepaid shared traffic package 5T full-time package is 0.75 yuan/ GB, the unit price of the free time package is as low as 0.51 yuan/GB. If you consume 5TB of data in Hong Kong, the total cost of postpaid data is 5,120 yuan, the total cost of a full-time data package is 3,727 yuan, and the total cost of an idle data package is 2,609 yuan. It can save 27.2% (full time) and 49% (idle time) traffic costs.
Secondly, what scenarios are the shared traffic packages applicable to?
On the one hand, the idle-time traffic packet is suitable for a business system with relatively large traffic during the period of 00:00-08:00, or the business system can control the traffic to be generated during the period of 00:00-08:00. Some business systems that are not accessible to end users, do not require high real-time performance, can adjust the system usage time, and generate a large amount of traffic are very suitable for idle traffic packets. On the other hand, all products that use metered ECS, EIP, load-balancing SLB, and NAT gateways can use shared flow packets. From the perspective of cost saving, the greater the traffic, the greater the cost savings by using the shared traffic package.
Finally, how is the shared data package used? What else is there to pay attention to?
The shared traffic package is very simple to use. You can directly activate it on the Alibaba Cloud official website. No configuration is required after activation, and the system will automatically deduct the traffic of related products. After use, users can check the specific traffic used by each product in the cost center.
If a user purchases both an idle-time data package and a full-time data package, the data in the idle-time data package will be preferentially deducted from 0:00-8:00AM during the idle time.
It should be noted that the traffic package has an expiration date. If the unutilized traffic exceeds the expiration date, it cannot continue to be used. It is recommended to carefully evaluate how many shared traffic packages are needed based on the historical situation of the business system. You can buy a little less at first to avoid waste, and then increase it as needed. After all the shared traffic packages are used up, the system will automatically settle for postpaid traffic, which will not cause the user's business system to be unavailable. If the user purchases multiple data packages at the same time, the data package will be deducted firstly with the earliest expiration date.
