Linux hard disk installation steps

I found a lot of articles on installing FC5 with DVD mirrored hard disks on the Internet, but they are not systematic. For the vast number of novices in China, the Linux cloud computing architect took a lot of time to write this detailed installation article. Or friends who are just getting started can help.

  1. Preliminary knowledge:

  1. Understand the partition of LINUX. The WINDOWS operating system we usually use is generally FAT32 or NTFS partition, while LINUX uses a different partition structure. Now EXT3 is generally used, and there is one more swap partition than WINDOWS. That is, the SWAP partition. That is to say, if you want to install LINUX, you must have at least two partitions, one is the SWAP partition, and the other is the EXT3 partition installed by the system. If you want to know more about the Linux partition, please search for related articles on this site. You will lay a solid foundation for in-depth study of LINUX in the future.

  2. ISO file: The image files we download are all image files with the suffix ISO. Since RAR can extract the files inside and display the format of the RAR compressed package, many rookies think that this is a compressed package that needs to be decompressed, which is incorrect Yes, we call this kind of file an image file, which is a format often used by burning software, and friends who burn discs should know.

Note: My following installation is under the condition that my WINDOWS partition is FAT32. If the C drive is NTFS, the structure will be different!

  Second, installation preparation:

1. Download the DVD image file of FC5 on this site, and save it in a In the root directory of the FAT32 formatted partition, I put it on the D drive, be careful not to unzip

it! 2. Download: Grub For Dos and unzip the "file" inside the large C drive root directory, note that it is not a folder!

  3. This boot The .ini file replaces the file in the root directory of the C drive. Note that this file under the C drive is hidden. As for what is added in it, interested friends can take a look. Extract the ISOLINUX "folder" in the downloaded image to the root directory of the partition where you store the FC5 image files. Of course I put it on the D drive.

   4. Edit C:\boot\grub\menu.lst, this file, and add this part to the file:

  title Install-Fedora Core 5

  kernel (hd0,4)/isolinux/vmlinuz

  initrd (hd0,4)/isolinux/ initrd.img

is saved, but pay attention to the partition you put it, mine is (hd0,4), if you put the installation package on another disk, this needs to be changed, which is also a problem often encountered when a rookie installs . If you have read the introduction article about LINUX partition on this site, I don't need to say more about this. If you want to learn, you can search for it. The time to read an article is much less than the time it takes you to restart and fail to install repeatedly, and you also learn knowledge, why not do it.

  5. Prepare a partition where you want to install LINUX, and transfer all important files to the retreat. There is no need to use partition software such as PM to divide the partition first. We directly delete this empty partition during installation and then renew it. It is enough to divide it, and it is the same as the partition when WINDOWS is installed.

  ===================================================== ============

Equipment work: You can first divide a part of the space as ext3 format. . . Easy installation

First use winrar to extract vmlinuz and initrd.img from DVD /isolinux and put them in C:\

1: Download a tool: Grub For Dos and extract it to C:\

  2: Modify boot.ini

and add such a line at the end of C:\ :\grldr="GRUB" save and exit, so that when the system starts, one more option will be read from boot.int

  3: Modify C:\boot\grub\menu.lst

  to add these lines of

  title Install Fedora 8

  kernel (hd0,0)/isolinux/vmlinuz

  initrd (hd0,0)/isolinux/initrd.img

Explain: title is displayed Title, hda0 means the first ide hard disk, 0 means the first partition, here is the so-called c drive.

As for those two files, they are in the isolinux folder.

Restart the system, you will see the GRUB menu, select it, select ftp installation in the installation medium,

  and select Fedora8.

The approximate process is as follows:

  To configure network ip information:

you can use manual configuration ipv4 (do not select v6)

  and then set

  ip: your ip / 255.255.255.0

  gateway: 192.168.1.254

  server: 61.144.56.100

  Then ftp information:

  use 192.168.1.100:15021

Select Fedora8 for the directory and select

  non-anonymous.

Next , fill in the username and password

  ok. . . Enter installation. .
