computer network study notes

Peer-to-peer (P2P)

Peer-to-peer networks are easier to create, less complex, and less expensive by eliminating the need for network equipment and dedicated servers. And the peer-to-peer network is not centrally managed. This network is less secure, not scalable, and those devices that act as both client and server may perform worse.

Terminal Equipment

End devices emit data that is transmitted over the network. Intermediate devices transmit data through alternate paths in the event of a link failure, and data transmissions are filtered to enhance security. A network medium provides a transmission channel for network messages.

Extranet and Intranet

Intranets only describe areas of the network that are normally only accessible to internal personnel. Wired LAN is affected by BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) when the device is connected to a wired network.

East

QoS will ensure uninterrupted user experience.

Converged network

When a network is used for all types of communication such as voice, video, text and graphics, then the network is called a converged network.

DSL, Dial-Up, Cable and Satellite

DSL is an always-on, high-bandwidth connection that runs over a phone line. The cable uses the same coaxial cable to carry the TV signal to the home, providing Internet access. Dial-up is slower than either DSL or cable, but since it can use any phone line and a simple modem, it's the most economical option for home users. Satellites require a clear line of sight and are susceptible to trees and other obstacles. None of these typical home options use dedicated leased lines (eg T1/E1 and T3/E3).

BYOD

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) refers to bringing your own device to work.
