Importance and configuration of Linux routing table

Routing, as the name implies, is to send a data packet from one device to another device in a different network, and these tasks are done by routers. Routers only care about the state of the network and decide the best path in the network. The implementation of routing relies on the routing table in the router to complete. The job responsibilities of the router are as follows:

  • separate broadcast domains
  • Choose the best path to the destination in the routing table
  • Maintain and check routing information
  • Connect to WAN
