Porteus Kiosk 5.4 Released, Lightweight Linux Operating System

Porteus Kiosk is a lightweight Linux operating system, Porteus Kiosk 5.4.0 is now officially released, the new version upgrades system components to the latest version of the Gentoo stable branch, including Linux kernel 5.15.28, Mozilla Firefox 91.7.1 and Google Chrome 98.0.4758.102.

Other updates include:

  • Added support for importing DER certificates via parameters import_certificates= 
  • Screensaver Video and Screensaver Page functions now enable hardware video decoding
  • Added support for dynamically generated remote configurations
  • OpenH264 plugin is enabled by default in Firefox browser
  • Added 'cec-client' tool for controlling monitors on HDMI ports
  • Reduced initial connections from clients to Porteus Kiosk server from 5 to 3
  • Switching to an auxiliary keyboard layout will no longer allow key combinations that are blocked by default
  • Firefox browser will open URLs that require domain authentication without asking for user confirmation
  • By default, the share page button on the URL address bar of the Chrome browser is disabled
  • Kernel firmware symlinks are maintained according to the WHENCE file
