At the end of last month, Apple introduced a privacy label in the App Store. The new privacy policy forces app developers to disclose how much user data they collect, and at the same time need to tell users which data may be shared with third parties.

Cloud storage provider pCloud conducted an in-depth survey to determine which platforms share the most personal data of users among the applications we use every day.

The pCloud research found that 52% of all applications share data with third parties who are associated with companies that run specific applications or only pay for access to user data.

Among these applications, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn collected the most personal data, 79%, 57%, and 50%, respectively.

Specific to music applications, the following music-related service platforms are among the top 50 applications that infringe on user privacy.

  • 12th: TikTok

Among audio-centric applications, YouTube and YouTube Music have the most infringement on application privacy. Whenever a user searches for a video on YouTube, 42% of personal data is sent elsewhere.

These data determine the types of advertisements users see and the videos that will be recommended in the future, and they will also be sold to brands that want to advertise on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

As the personalized advertising policy is changing, the user's choice of advertising is also changing. TikTok, ranked 12th, recently sent notifications to users that from April 15th, the advertisements users see on the platform may be based on user behavior, and users can choose whether to receive more personalized advertisement recommendations.

TikTok said, “As our advertising platform matures, we will continue to be transparent with users and understand their choices regarding personalized advertising on the platform.”

The music streaming media platforms that other users are using more or less violate user privacy. For example, Spotify is ranked 18th in the middle of the list; Apple Music is obviously not on the list, although it collects data but will not share it with anyone; and Amazon Music is also on the list, ranking 58th.
