Background of the project

A wind power group is China's largest offshore wind power complete machine manufacturer, committed to creating future energy and building the world's leading wind power full life cycle service provider. The R&D and design capability of the wind power group is one of the company's core competitiveness, and the daily business of the technology department relies on R&D and design software to a high degree. Among them, the degree of dependence is the highest, and the most users are NX, Solidworks, AutoCAD, EPLAN these four CAD software. They are all genuine floating licenses, and each license is expensive. During peak business periods, license contention often occurs for these software. There will be more NX authorizations that need to be purchased this year, but there is no detailed authorization usage analysis data to support the purchase module and purchase volume.

The Group’s Information Technology Department is responsible for maintaining the license server for floating licenses and needs to have full control over the use of floating licenses. But at present, when it is necessary to analyze the license usage, the software usage can only be judged by analyzing the daily log. It takes several hours to several days to analyze a log. Because the logs of different software vendors are not uniform, it is difficult to accurately count the license usage status, and it is also difficult to actively discover license usage abnormalities. Once the user reports that the license is insufficient, it cannot analyze whether the license is reasonably occupied, nor can it automatically release the abnormally occupied license immediately. When the business requirements department requests additional software licenses, it is also difficult to provide a basis for the increase. You can only apply based on experience based on the number and proportion of users, and the accuracy is poor. The lack of a license monitoring and management system brings great inconvenience to the current management work.

Project Objectives

The group hopes to find a supplier that can help the management to achieve the following goals

1 . Improve the license analysis method to get the current license usage status in real time. Including each user ID, the length of time occupied, the name of the computer that uses the software, and information such as license exceptions.

2 . Improve the software history statistics method, which can quickly count the change curve of software license usage in any time period. Combining the absolute number of users, the number of machines and the length of use, it can be judged whether the license is fully used, the future growth trend and other information.


3 . Improve the monitoring method of the license server and increase the monitoring of the status of the license service. Accurately send email alerts on abnormal conditions of license distribution.

4 . Under the premise of satisfying the normal work of the same number of software users, the actual use of licenses can be reduced by reasonably and accurately releasing idle licenses. In this way, the purchase quantity and cost of software licenses are reduced.
