TCCI's first frontier brain science laboratory is put into use

What is TCCI?

Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute (Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute) is abbreviated as TCCI, which focuses on research in three areas: brain detection, brain-related disease treatment, and brain function development.

On October 23, 2020, the first frontier brain science laboratory of the Chen Tianqiaoluoqianqian Institute (TCCI) was put into use in the Hongqiao campus of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University. The laboratory includes brain-computer interfaces, sleep dreams, cognitive assessment, digital medical and other contents. It will feature internationalization and industrialization as its core features to further support brain science research.

TCCI founder Chen Tianqiao said in his speech at the inauguration ceremony that the Brain Science Frontier Laboratory is an important carrier for TCCI to conduct brain science research, and it is also an important step in TCCI’s donation of 500 million yuan to support China’s brain science research. .
The laboratory will focus on specific research directions at each stage, open to scientists across the country and the world, and provide support from all-round resources such as funds, equipment, and clinics, and strive to focus on scientific research, talent training, standard setting, and industry-university-research integration. Achieve results in all areas.
The laboratory focuses on supporting two types of projects. One is cutting-edge research on a global scale, which gives scientists full academic freedom, such as brain-computer interface, memory storage, artificial intelligence, dream control, etc., and the other is translational research, such as recent efforts to study how Use digital means to improve the cognitive level of the brain, etc.

computer interface flexible electrode project in
the frontier laboratory of brain science. The technology is jointly undertaken by the team of researcher Tao Hu from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the neurosurgery team of Huashan Hospital. Tao Hu said that this independent original flexible brain-computer interface is basically mature in key technologies such as implantation of trauma and long-term in vivo safety. A weapon for precise positioning of brain functions. He also revealed that the electrode innovatively uses silk protein, which is not only less traumatic during implantation, but also safer for the human body after implantation.

Two mice with neural signal acquisition chips implanted in their skulls move freely in the cage. When a mouse eats or someone approaches, the computer directly connected to the neural signal processing interface circuit will reflect the changes in its brain electrical signals in real time.

Home sleep monitoring and intervention research project
Associate Professor Yu Huan, head of the sleep center of Huashan Hospital and director of the sleep diagnosis and treatment center of Fudan University, home sleep monitoring and intervention research project. In the sleep and dream laboratory, a young man is lying on a monitoring bed with his whole body Densely covered with electrodes and wires, this is the traditional PSG equipment used for sleep disorder monitoring and diagnosis.

Screening and prevention of Alzheimer's disease through VR games

Cognitive disorders in the elderly are increasingly plagued by society, and early detection and prevention are currently the most effective means. Professor Huang Yanyan of Huashan Hospital demonstrated the new version in the VR and motion capture laboratory. The elderly can complete shopping, ordering and other tasks in daily life scenes such as supermarkets and restaurants. R&D personnel can complete tasks according to their speed, accuracy, and walking. Comprehensive analysis of routes, etc. for Alzheimer’s screening.

Aiming at the pain points of traditional assessment such as boring and time-consuming, TCCI funded research on the use of VR games to screen for Alzheimer’s and achieved important results. At present, it has reached in-depth cooperation with Shengqu Games, and the goal is to become the first in China to obtain numbers. The game product of the drug certificate.

At the inauguration ceremony of the laboratory, many well-known overseas experts invited by TCCI shared the latest results of international brain science frontier research.
