"Certified Device Assisted User Authentication" was originally applied for in 2018 and is now a newly granted patent involving nearby authentication. Users do not need to repeatedly unlock iPhone, iPad, Mac or other devices, only need to authenticate through "Apple Glass". “Many electronic devices restrict access to various functions based on user identity authentication.” The patent explains, “When multiple devices are used at the same time, the program to unlock each device separately may delay user access and reduce user experience quality.”
Apple’s solution "includes a certified device that users can wear as a head-mounted device." Nearby devices can be iPhone, iPad Pro, Mac, etc.
"(Then) authenticated devices can be used to detect near-end devices." The patent continues, "to determine the user's intent to access the restricted access function of the near-end device when the near-end device is locked, and to issue authentication data."
Apple continued: "According to the authentication data, the nearby device recognizes the user as an authenticated user and enters the unlocked state from the locked state, so that the restricted access function of the nearby device can also be accessed by the user."
Therefore, wearing an "Apple Glass" Whenever you pick up your iPhone—you don’t even have to look at your phone—you can use it directly without having to enter a password or wait for Face ID.
Apple said that there may be different levels of certification. As long as you put on the "Apple Glass" and pick up your iPhone or iPad, you can use it for a limited amount of time. This is similar to how you can now display notifications on the lock screen, or you can access the control center without unlocking it.
If the user looks at the device, "Apple Glass" will send an authentication code to completely unlock the iPhone. Similarly, when a user wearing Apple Glass looks away, the iPad will automatically lock.
