The VMX process of the VMware virtual machine has exited early

Preface

As I often fail when using VMware virtual machines, I now record one of the failures "vmx process has exited early".

Fault description

When using the virtual machine, due to abnormal exit or forced exit, the virtual machine shuts down, but the vmx.exe in the process has not been closed. The question prompt box is as follows.

Solution

Before talking about my solution, please allow me to summarize the methods I have experimented with:

  1. Ctrl+Atl+delete opens the task manager, finds the vmware-vmx.exe process, and closes this process. (I can find this process after I go in, but I can't close this process, even if I restart the computer, I can't kill it)
  2. Find the file where the virtual machine is located, delete the .lck file, and restart the virtual machine. (This method has no effect)
  3. Ctrl+Atl+delete opens the task manager, opens the service, disables all the services starting with VM, restarts, and enters the task manager again, opens the service that was previously turned off, and then turns on the virtual machine. (This method works for some models, so you can try it. The specific steps are as follows:)
  • Shut down the virtual machine, if it cannot be shut down normally, go to the task manager to forcefully kill the process .
  • Ctrl+Atl+delete to open the task manager , click on the service in the upper right corner

  • Click on the lower right corner to open the service

  • Find the service starting with VM

  • Right- click, open properties , and change the startup type to disabled after entering

  • Restart the computer, and then just those services is set to automatic to

My method

1. (Method 1) Shut down the virtual machine. If it cannot be shut down normally, go to the task manager to forcefully kill the process .

  • Open the control panel to find the uninstaller

  • Find VMware , right-click and select modify
  • Click next

  • Click Repair , if it prompts that the repair is unsuccessful during the repair process, shut down and restart to repair again.

2. Method 2: Go to the official website to download the latest version, and enter the secret key (Du Niang has a lot, I will not provide it here, haha), and then import the previous virtual system into the new VM.
