Fedora 34 will push the mirror installation package containing the i3 window manager

Previously, the default desktop environment of Fedora has always been GNOME. If users have other desktop environments that they prefer (for example: KDE Plasma or Xfce), they need to download the corresponding customized version and use it to install a pre-configured one of your choice Fedora desktop environment. The i3 window manager is no exception. Although it has been born for more than 10 years, it also needed to be installed through commands before, but now the situation has changed. The customized version of the i3 window manager for Fedora has been approved for approval.

i3  is a tiled window manager under X11, proud of its fast speed, simplicity, low resource usage and plain text configuration.

Following the establishment of the Fedora i3 Special Interest Group last year, the plan was approved this week and will officially provide Fedora with a customized version of the i3 window manager to replace other desktop environments/window managers. According to the current plan, a customized version of the i3 X11 window manager will be released as part of Fedora 34 this spring. This is the first time that Fedora has released an image using a tiled window manager, and it is also the first time that the i3 window manager has been pre-loaded in the image installation package as part of a Linux distribution.

At the same time, Fedora Workstation 34 will use GNOME 40 by default.
