Microsoft hopes that the vision of running Android applications on Windows can be traced back to 2014, when Microsoft launched the Android application porting project "Project Astoria" and iOS application porting project "Project Islandwood" to explore, aiming to provide developers with Android and iOS An easy way to port applications to the Windows platform (Windows Phone).

By 2015, Microsoft officially abandoned the application porting project for two reasons. One is that Windows developers are not satisfied with Microsoft’s solution; the other is that the project will introduce the "Android subsystem" and lead to the development of Windows 10 Mobile. The running speed becomes slower.

In fact, the recent update of the Windows 10 "Your Phone" app already supports streaming to run Android on Windows 10.

However, from the information disclosed by Windows Central, this is obviously not a “native” solution to support Android applications. It is more likely that, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, users are allowed to obtain natively run Android applications through the Microsoft Store.

There is no definitive news about how Microsoft plans to run Android applications on Windows 10, and whether it supports Windows on Arm. But considering that most Android applications are built on Arm devices, the latter is undoubtedly more meaningful.
