NoteExpress-a highly recommended document management software

After using NoteExpress, I feel that NoteExpress can completely abuse EndNote, and friends who use Endnote should not be dissatisfied.

Three feelings after use:

  1. Shuangwaiwai, really cool.
  2. Or domestic software understands the usage habits of Chinese people;
  3. The well-known old brands are not necessarily the best ones, and the newer ones are not necessarily difficult to use.

For the last point, it is easy to understand by analogy with reading a classic. Everyone knows that "A Hundred Years of Solitude" is a good book, very famous, but few people can read it comfortably, and can't even read one page.

For NoteExpress, why do I highly recommend it? Because it can greatly simplify the steps of document management software.

I used EndNote in the past, so from searching for documents to document management, it takes the following steps:

  1. Open the homepage of the literature database; enter keywords and select the literature in the phase
  2. Export, save the bibliography on the local computer
  3. Open Endnote, click Import, select the bibliography downloaded in step 2
  4. Download the full text of each article, the full text of pdf corresponds to the bibliography one to one

Using Endnote, both English and Chinese literature databases need to go through the above four steps.
Although Endnote can directly download English documents and update bibliography, it is really slow. Now in the era of efficiency, this is really unbearable.

But using NoteExpress is completely different:

  1. I can completely omit steps 2 and 3 above. I don’t use it at all. I can use the browser plug-in "Network Catcher" to automatically import the software. There will be no downloadable bibliographic files on the desktop anymore. Both Chinese and English
  2. For Chinese periodicals, I don’t need to download one article, I can download all articles with one click, and I don’t need to match each article in step 4 (IP address recognition is required, but no settings in the school)

The above two points may not be enough for you to spend time trying out a new software. Then there are the following advantages:
1. Automatically recognize PDF
. There must be documents that we have downloaded before or others have sent us on our computer. At this time, if we want to import it into the document management software, then we have to repeat the four big steps above, especially the one-to-one correspondence between the documents in the fourth step is simply too time-consuming.
NoteExpress can automatically recognize the title or DOI information in the PDF, and can intelligently complete the metadata field information in the bibliography, such as author, year, source, abstract, keywords, etc., unlike Endnote, only the title column has information, and It is also displayed as "<pdf name.pdf>", which is simply ugly.
2. Support label marking
. Documents can be marked and labeled, which can quickly distinguish, filter and locate the required bibliography. Endnote seems to work, but there is no tag cloud.
3. Support folder information statistics and data analysis.
Those who have done bibliometric analysis must know word frequency analysis, word cloud graph, word co-occurrence relationship graph, etc., which can be realized with this software.
4. It can display the impact factor and the scope of collection at home and abroad
. The level of the source publication of the literature can be displayed from the side of these two contents, which can provide data support for selecting high literature.

In short, NoteExpress has the basic functions that EndNote has, and there are more functions that Endnote does not.
Some people say that NoteExpress does not have many citation formats. I want to tell you that there are as many as 4120 Chinese and English journal citation formats in the software, but Endnote comes with only 499. This gap is obvious.

After testing, the only disadvantage of NoteExpress is that it supports incomplete English databases and cannot download English documents. Even the most commonly used WOS and Scopus are not available, but it supports IEEE, Wiley, PubMed, SpringerLink, etc.
