Qian Tianbai is the founder of China's Internet business. He not only sent out China's first e-mail and opened the prelude to the use of the Internet by Chinese people, but also officially registered China's top-level domain name CN on behalf of China, and changed China's CN The history of top-level domain servers placed abroad is known as the "father of China's Internet."

I am born to be useful

Qian Tianbai was born in a scholarly family in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province in 1945. In 1963, he entered the Radio Technology Department of Tsinghua University with an average score of 93 in 6 subjects.

After graduating from university in 1969, Qian Tianbai was assigned to a small blind factory in the Northeast because of his poor family background. What he learned was useless there, but he did not abandon himself because of this. He goes to work during the day and persists in studying at night. He firmly believes that "I am born to be useful, and there will be time when the wind and waves break."

The seven brothers and sisters in the family wandered in the north and south, Qian Tianbai often wrote letters to care and encourage them. His elder sister wanted to learn English but had no conditions. Qian Tianbai made a radio for her by himself, and at the same time tried his best to obtain some English textbooks and send it to her sister. Qian Tianbai was most worried about his younger brother who was only fifteen years old. In order to make his life better, he saved half of his only more than 30 yuan salary every month and sent it to his younger brother.

Send the first email from the Chinese

After the reform and opening up, Qian Tianbai finally ushered in a "long wind and waves" moment.

Qian Tianbai was transferred to the Computing Station of the Ministry of Machines and Machines (the predecessor of the China Weapon Industry Computing Institute) because of his excellent quality and hardworking attitude, where he can give full play to what he has learned. It was from this time that Qian Tianbai had a better understanding of the Internet.

At the end of the 1970s, Qian Tianbai went to Germany for the introduction of mainframe computers to the Ministry of Ordnance Industry, where he first heard of the term "Internet" and attracted his attention.

In 1987, Qian Tianbai represented China at the International Internet Exchange Conference. This was the first time that a Chinese figure appeared in such an international conference. The European and American representatives were very surprised by this. Qian Tianbai described the participation of this conference. He is "tied to this cyber tank."

At that time, attending international conferences did not use faxes or letters to communicate. All matters were done via email, including hotel reservations, conference registration, and registration. Before going abroad, Qian Tianbai will get in touch with local internet people as soon as possible and share online information. During this period, Qian Tianbai sent an e-mail containing the content "Cross the Great Wall and lead to the world". This was the first e-mail sent by a Chinese, which opened the door to Internet use in China.

Register China's top-level domain "cn"

Since then, Qian Tianbai has been appointed as a guest researcher of the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a vice chairman of the Working Committee of the China Internet Network Information Center, and a member of the Security Expert Group of the Information Office of the State Council. He is mainly responsible for the preparation, operation and management of the China Internet Network Information Center. The formulation of my country's first domain name management policies and regulations and the safe operation of information networks have made very important contributions.

Since 1990, Qian Tianbai has registered China's top-level domain name "cn" on DN-NIC (the predecessor of the International Internet Information Center) on behalf of China. However, due to domestic restrictions at that time, the domain name server was operated abroad. Four years later, the CN domain name server moved from abroad to run on CSTNET, thus ending the history of China's domain name server being placed abroad.

In the same year, Qian Tianbai presided over the establishment of China's first CANET network center that was officially registered on the Internet and put into normal operation. China realized the full integration with the world Internet, and the world began to recognize China as a country with the Internet. Two years later, China Internet officially provided network services. Qian Tianbai is responsible for the technical coordination of international and domestic network interconnection, and is also committed to promoting the planning and construction of my country's national scientific research and education computer network.

Promote the Internet

In order to promote the use of the Internet in China, Qian Tian tried his best. He spends all his time during the day on the Internet, and even spends part of his time at night as a spare time to track foreign advanced technology and development trends online to contact friends in the Internet world. He practiced it personally. Since the opening of e-mail in China, dozens of technology units have sent and received e-mails through his channels.

Not only that, Qian Tianbai tirelessly explained the unfamiliar concept of the Internet to the leaders, relatives, and friends around him. He has done a lot of reports in the industry and is doing promotion work little by little. Under his guidance, many colleagues, relatives and friends learned to surf the Internet.

Qian Tianbai's efforts were finally not in vain. By 1996, all walks of life began to set off the Internet fever, and even many ordinary people began to pay attention to the Internet. Qian Tianbai was very happy. He said excitedly: "I remember when a meeting was held in Princeton in 1987, foreign countries looked down on China. They said that the network speed was so low and there was only one node. But I thought to myself that one day, China will be like other countries. Same, we will soon enter the information society."

Master of the country

Qian Tianbai clearly sees that the Internet will make great changes to the Chinese people's lifestyle. He predicts that the time will not be particularly short, because this involves the development of our own national information industry. The entire Internet was developed in American culture, but time may not be fully adapted to the Chinese. In view of China's cultural and social background, it must have its own national culture. China's information network should meet the needs of China's economic and social development and serve China's economic development.

In March 1998, the Ministry of Information Industry, led by Qian Tianbai, was formally established. The integration of information industrialization has accelerated, and it has become the general trend to take the road of China's new industrialization, and it is also the only way to take China's industrial power. Unfortunately, two months later, Qian Tianbai died of a heart attack at the age of 53.

In less than two years after Qian Tianbai's death, China's informatization process has exceeded his predictions during his lifetime, and the rapid development of the Internet has gradually changed the way of life of Chinese people.

More than a decade after Qian Tianbai's death, his deeds were recorded in the history of his alma mater, Tsinghua University.

During the centennial anniversary of Tsinghua University, Qian Tianbai was listed as the "Master of the Country" together with famous scientists such as Hua Luogeng, Qian Xuesen, and Deng Jiaxian. The History Museum of Tsinghua University specially exhibited his deeds during his lifetime. Qian Tianbai is frank, knowledgeable, modest, and elegant. His positive and optimistic attitude towards life is worthy of praise and learning from future generations.

In January 2000, the Organizing Committee of the China Internet Network Competition held the "Ericsson Cup" China Outstanding Website Selection and China Outstanding Online Person Selection Activities at the China World Hotel. Qian Tianbai was selected as one of the "Top Ten Outstanding Online Persons".

As a pioneer of China's Internet industry, Qian Tianbai is well-known as the "father of China's Internet". He has dedicated his life to the Internet industry in China without any reservation, so that many of the joys in life are not in time. enjoy. Qian Tianbai has an artistic cell. He once thought about learning how to sing and dance, but also to learn calligraphy and painting, and even practice playing the piano. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to achieve it.

Deep affection

In Qian Tianbai's world, love is not only a fate, but also a responsibility.

Qian Tianbai’s wife became seriously ill soon after marriage. He did not dislike her, but took her to seek medical advice from all corners of China. Whenever someone told him where the doctor was famous, he arranged a job. Then took his wife on the journey, which exhausted his nearly 20 years of long years. During this period, Qian Tianbai had no complaints, he used his kindness and sincere love to take care of his wife with all his heart, and with amazing perseverance and patience to perform the duties of a husband.

In 1993, his long-ill wife passed away. In the days since then, Qian Tianbai has been immersed in deep remembrance, offering mourning in front of his wife's portrait, until the day he followed.
