"China Unicom 5G Industry Private Network White Paper" released! (Download attached)

Recently, China Unicom released the "5G Industry Private Network White Paper" . The white paper pointed out that China Unicom's 5G private network is divided into three types: 5G virtual private network, 5G hybrid private network, and 5G independent private network.

5G private network type

5G Virtual Private Network

Refers to the use of end-to-end QoS or slicing technology based on China Unicom's 5G public network resources to provide customers with a virtual private network with guaranteed delay and bandwidth and isolated from ordinary user data of China Unicom's public network. From wireless base stations, transmission to core network user plane and control plane end-to-end sharing of China Unicom's public network, through slicing technology, to provide users with a logical private network with specific SLA guarantee.

Applicable scenarios: suitable for wide area private network services, including scenarios such as smart cities, smart scenic spots, new media, high-end communities and offices, and smart transportation (including autonomous driving).

5G Hybrid Private Network

It refers to the construction of a basic connection network with enhanced bandwidth, low latency and no data out of the park for industry users based on 5G data offloading technology through flexible customization of wireless and control network elements.

The core network user plane element UPF is privatized and deployed for industry users, and the wireless base station and core network control plane element are flexibly deployed according to customer needs to provide users with part of the physical exclusive 5G private network.

Wireless base stations can be deployed independently on the enterprise side or shared deployment with the public network. The core network control plane network elements AMF and SMF can be deployed independently in the corporate campus or shared with the public network. However, the UPF and MEC of the user plane of the core network are only independently deployed in the enterprise campus.

The 5G hybrid private network meets the needs of industry users for large bandwidth, low latency, and no data leaving the park. In this mode, the business data in the industrial user network is locally unloaded, which can be optimized through function customization to reduce the impact of public network failures on the user's production business and ensure production safety.

Applicable scenarios: Suitable for local open parks, including transportation and logistics/ports, high-end scenic spots, urban security, industrial manufacturing, etc.

5G independent private network

It uses proprietary wireless equipment and integrated core network equipment to build an end-to-end independent private network that is completely isolated from public network data for industry users.

The 5G independent private network includes all the network element functions of 5G systems such as gNB, AMF, SMF, UPF, MEC, among which UPF (MEC) is used as a mobile anchor point, responsible for packet routing, forwarding, packet inspection and policy execution, traffic reporting and other functions , And responsible for billing report generation. Based on the MEC network industry collaboration platform, it provides edge CT-VAS (CT value-added services) and IT-VAS (IT value-added services) capabilities to meet the needs of industry users for edge networks and business capabilities.

Applicable scenarios: Suitable for local enclosed areas, including mines, oil fields, nuclear power, high-precision manufacturing, prisons, military, etc. For example, unmanned dispatching, remote operation, system control and communication in mines and oil fields; intelligent manufacturing and monitoring scenarios in high-precision manufacturing plants; exclusive communications in prisons and military areas.

5G private network and MEC integration

In order to achieve a large bandwidth, low latency, and highly reliable user experience, multi-access edge computing (MEC) is an indispensable link in 5G network deployment. In actual deployment, 5G private network + MEC can provide industry users with different combinations from the most basic network offloading capabilities to various CT-VAS (Value-Added Service) / IT-VAS capabilities to fully meet the needs of enterprise business Demand for PaaS capabilities.

CT-VAS/IT-VAS needs to be provided uniformly based on the operator's MEP (MEC Platform) edge platform.

When deploying a 5G private network, the MEP deployed on the enterprise side can be connected to the edge UPF and 5GC. The MEP provides the basic platform ICT-IaaS function, and the CT-VAS/IT-VAS capabilities and various SaaS applications are deployed on the MEP. Enterprise users provide self-operation and maintenance interfaces to adapt to the flexible scheduling requirements of user-side services for network capabilities, ICT-VAS, and SaaS.

CT-VAS and /IT-VAS are value-added services that open key CT and IT capabilities to edge applications. CT-VAS includes basic IP address/DNS offload configuration capabilities, DNS resolution capabilities, LB load balancing services, NAT conversion, and wireless network location Services, wireless network bandwidth and QoS management, etc. IT-VAS refers to capabilities such as AI recognition, video codec, AR/VR rendering, and big data analysis.
