H.266/VVC is officially finalized in July this year (2020). Compared with H.265/HEVC, it will save nearly 50% of the transmission traffic under the same image quality. The higher the resolution, the more the bit rate will be saved. H.266 was jointly developed by MPEG and ITU. Global companies including Qualcomm, HHI, Samsung, Sony, Intel, Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Tencent, Alibaba, Bytedance, Kuaishou and other companies have participated in it. H.266/VVC codec software has been released one after another, and the hardware chip is also being designed. I believe it will be available soon.
The text of the H.266/VVC standard was also released on the ITU official website on 2020-09-09 and can be downloaded from https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.266-202008-P/en . However, only downloads for TIES members are currently supported, and it is estimated that ordinary downloads will be available for some time.
