When I first started learning the WRF-CMAQ model, I naively thought that I would use Linux as a previously installed virtual machine (not just a command interface), and later I learned that this is Graphical interface Linux system. After consulting countless data and dozens of rounds of actual combat, it is considered to be a little familiar with the installation process of the graphical interface LInux system, and sorted out for your reference.
Two Linux installation options:
First, there are two theoretical ways to install the Linux system. The first is to uninstall the existing system (windows, MacOS, etc.) on your computer, and then install the Linux system; the first is to install a virtual machine ( Virtual computer simulated by specific software), and then install the LInux system in the virtual machine. Usually, the first kind is too risky (unless you have an old computer or are very familiar with the Linux system, and the demand is very large); the second kind provides a good opportunity for the majority of Linux enthusiasts or demanders to try.
The specific installation steps (so the installation steps described below are based on the second idea, using the VMware 15 virtual machine, CentOS 8 image):
1. Installing VMware 15 is very simple, you can find the tutorial by yourself, the WeChat public account is recommended here: software installation Butler (non-advertising, I really provide a lot of free and high-quality resources, I have been using Amway and countless others), there are various versions of VMware installation packages and installation tutorials;
2. After installing VMware 15, open the software, Choose to create a new virtual machine, choose a custom configuration, and then select Workstation 15.x for software compatibility;
3. Install the source and choose to install the operating system later, first create a virtual machine with a blank hard disk (because vmware15 is not fully compatible with centos8, so Custom installation is required);
4. The guest operating system selects Linux, and the version selects other Linux 5.x or higher kernel 64-bit. (Because VMware and CentOS8.1 are not fully compatible, the current installation method is selected, you need to choose the advanced version of red hat or other Linux 5.x or higher kernel 64-bit (choose the latter here)), and then modify the virtual machine name and Installation location (modify according to personal needs, no need to change);
5. Disk settings, disk size to choose according to personal needs, choose to split the virtual disk into multiple files, disk location according to personal needs;
6. Processor The configuration is based on the host configuration and personal needs. The memory is recommended to be 2G, the hard disk memory is recommended to be 40G (the default value is selected here, not modified, only for demonstration), the bridge mode is selected for the network mode, and the default is recommended for the rest, CD / DVD iso The image file is not selected for the time being, and it is determined to generate a virtual machine;
7. Change to the downloaded centos8 image file at the CD / DVD option under the open virtual machine;
8. A very important point is that you need to modify the resolution 1920 * 1080 to prevent the problem of incomplete display of the installation interface (resolution setting It should be consistent with the resolution of the host
machine ); 9. Start the virtual machine, select install CentOS Linux 8.1.1911 with the keyboard keys, press the tab key, enter inst.gpt (default MBR mode will be modified to GPT mode installation), Enter Enter to install (because you forgot to take a screenshot during installation, so please refer to the pictures in the bird's tutorial for explanation);
10. Enter the installation interface and set parameters, including language, time, installation media (local media), software selection The installation destination, network, host name, etc. are set according to the bird's tutorial.
