Affirmed's focus on 5G technology and edge computing (edge computing) business is an ideal acquisition target for large cloud service providers who want to enter the telecommunications business. According to data from Crunchbase, an enterprise services database company, Affirmed raised a total of $ 155 million before it was acquired by Microsoft. The company has more than 100 telecom enterprise customers, including AT & T, Orange, Vodafone, Telus, Turkcell and STC.

Affirmed's customer base can provide Microsoft another entry point into the telecommunications industry. In the past, telecommunications companies usually built their own data centers and equipped them with expensive proprietary hardware, as well as developing software to manage the hardware. But with the virtualization technology today, large cloud platforms can provide the same functions as these data centers, and they are equally reliable, which allows telecommunications companies not to bear any hardware and software costs. New technologies such as 5G are expected to open up new markets and expand existing markets, so now is undoubtedly a good time to promote these new technologies.
