A " 2023 Generative AI in the Enterprise " report released by O'Reilly pointed out that the generative AI wave led by OpenAI's GPT large language model and ChatGPT is experiencing unprecedented rapid popularity.
The report is based on a total of 4,782 responses received between September 14 and September 23, 2013. Of these, 2857 respondents answered all questions. 74% of respondents were from North America or Europe.
Two-thirds of respondents said they are already using generative AI. "We've never seen a technology adopted as quickly as generative AI - it's hard to believe that ChatGPT is less than a year old."
But at the same time, there are still some problems in the adoption process of generative AI technology. The report found that difficulty finding business use cases and concerns about legal issues have hindered the development of AI. Improperly conceived and implemented AI solutions can cause harm, and the legal consequences of using generative AI are still unknown, such as who owns the copyright to the results generated by the AI.
And some company cultures will also restrict the application of AI. On the other hand, the difficulty and high cost of building generative AI infrastructure is also a concern.
Some other findings of the report include:
- 54% of AI users expect the biggest benefit of AI to be increased productivity.
- 77% of respondents use AI to assist programming. Specific applications mentioned include fraud detection, teaching and customer relationship management.
- AI users say AI programming (66%) and data analysis (59%) are the most in-demand skills.
- Many AI adopters are still in the early stages: 26% have been using AI for less than a year, while 18% are already using it in production.
- 16% of respondents working in AI reported using open source models.
- Unintended results, security, fairness, bias, and privacy are the biggest risks for adopter testing.
