Stellarium 23.3 released, open source 3D astronomical simulation software

Stellarium 23.3 has been released. Starting from v23.1, the released version number will display the year.release scheme. For Windows, the Qt framework version used is visible as part of the package name.

Stellarium is a free open source GPL (Free Software Foundation GNU General Public License) software that uses the OpenGL graphics interface to render the starry sky in real time. The software can simulate observing the sky with the naked eye, binoculars and small astronomy, and calculate the positions of the sun, moon, planets and other celestial bodies in the sky based on the time and location of the observer, and accurately display them. You can also draw constellations and demonstrate astronomical phenomena such as meteor showers, solar and lunar eclipses, etc.

Stellarium is also used in planetariums as teaching display software and as an auxiliary software for starry sky telescope observation by astronomy enthusiasts.

The main changes in this version are as follows:

  • New plugin: Missing Stars
  • Allow translucent landscape
  • Added discovery environment for solar system objects
  • Improved orbit drawing of small celestial bodies
  • Display named impact features as ellipses
  • Major changes to the Navigational Stars plugin
  • Observing List fix
  • Unambiguous comet name
  • and many minor bug fixes

TELESCOPE USERS

  • Some bugs in the Qt6-based version of the TelescopeControl plug-in have been discovered and fixed.

Telescope users can check to see if the problem has been resolved. If not resolved, the Stellarium team is seeking assistance from developers who have the ability to resolve the issue, possibly with a reward.

See the full list of changes for details .
