6 Deploying Windows Azure nodes in Windows HPC Server 2012 R2

Windows Azure nodes will be deployed to assist the process of running Windows HPC Server 2012 R2 cluster.

6.1 Creating a Windows Azure worker node template

The secondary node configuration template specifies Windows Azure subscription information, add a set of Windows Azure nodes to the cluster. Information includes:

  • Azure subscription ID. Azure subscription ID is a hexadecimal string of 32 characters, dashes xxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Management certificate thumbprint of the certificate. Fingerprint subscription certificate (also called an administrative certificate) provides the necessary authentication for clients to connect to Windows Azure subscription. This is a hexadecimal string of 40 characters

  • Name Azure cloud services

  • Name Azure storage account.

To create a Windows Azure worker node template, do the following:

1. Open HPC Cluster Manager

2. In the "Configuration" in the navigation pane, click the "node template."

3. In the "Operation" pane, click "New", which will bring up the "Create Node Template Wizard."

Provide credentials it will only be used to connect to Windows Azure nodes deployed using this template. Unlike domain credentials or any local credentials. Provided password is stored in encrypted database and HPC
